Default Help with C5 hood decision...

**Update** I decided to get what I really want and bought an MCM carbon fiber hood with the clear center. Thanks everyone for your help!

So I'm wanting to get a new hood for the Z. I would love an MCM carbon fiber hood, but it's a little out of my price range right now. I'm trying to choose between...

The top one is an ACI high rise (non Magnuson).
Next one down is a WCC hood
last one is an Eckler's hood.

What do you think?
Anyone Have pictures of their AM hoods?
Any experiences with these hoods?

Thanks everyone!

The second one keeps the lines of the vette better with the center dip all the way from front to back of hood....I liek it the best for that clean but fast as hell look

Ecklers looks somewhat like the MCM hood doesn't it? That's the one I like. Don't know if any clear a supercharger...if that is in your future.

Well, you can take MCM out of the equation , apparently they are all done, due to illness or death. It's too bad too, because it's the hood I was going after..

MCM is not done....Mike was sick, and they lost their #2 guy to an unexpected death.,.. mike is slowly getting back into the swing... the Ecklars hood is a poor excuse for a MCM hood...they are using an old MCM hood mold thats was designed forr vacuum molding. Ecklars is using that mold for hand layup fiberglass applications...the shrink rates are way different... when asking MCM if they could use their name .. Mike said absolutely not... of course this hood could be worked to fit a C5 perfectly... but reports are that they do not fit very well out of the box, and the fiberglass has alot of flaws... but it's cheap....

GREAT news. I was told by several vendors that MCM was done, and to look elsewhere, plus I called MCM 3 or 4 times, and go no reply..

I'll hold off

You may think that the MCM is out of your price range but usual is not.

The prep time for a MCM hood is very small compared to other hood where it may take many hours to get the fit and finish right.
So at the end the hoods cost the same or the other hoods cost more

Default hoods

You might check VIS hoods out. They have three styles all in carbon fiber. I got the extractor hood for about $600 plus shipping and it fit perfectly. Also, since it is carbon fiber, if you decide to paint it there is not a lot of prep. There used to be negative comments about VIS, but they sold the molds to someone a couple of years ago and I decided to try them. For the price I don't think they can be beat. By the way, the shipping carton was well done with lots of padding and all the corners well protected.

I have a Eckler's hood on my car and it fits great. The body shop that painted and installed the hood told me that it was one of the best fitting hoods that they had done. The finsh was smooth an needed very little prep before painting it. I tried for 6 months to get a MCM hood and was told by West Coast Corvettes, Vettshop, Corvette garage, corvette Central and Eckler's that they were out of business. I call for over 6 months and not one return call from them. Here's a few pics of my hood as you can see from the pics the hood fits nice and all the lines match up.

Go with the MCM hood - even if it costs a little more. The quality and fit is the best and the looks are

What about this one?

It's already primed and ready to paint plus it has built in cowl induction.

Anyone know anything about this hood?

I want to thank everyone for the help in which hood to purchase but I have finally come to a decision. I went with an MCM carbon fiber hood with the center cleared. I've ordered it and I can't wait to have this beautiful hood on my Z06. Thanks again for all the help, and I will definately have some pics up after it's installed.

Having read only your post..

I say you wait and get the MCM when you can... no need to settle if that's whatyou really want.

I promise that if you wait and get what you want, you won't regret it for a second. I'm only speaking from my own experience ... .02¢ deposited.
