Default Front License Plate

I was cited for no front license plate, so I need to put one on for a day. Does GM not know that cars are supposed to have them in CA? All of their performance cars look horrible with a plate. I had/have a 93 LT1 Z28 that I avoided putting on a front plate for 8 years and counting. That would have needed a bracket that made it stick out so far.

I just got my 01 C5 a few months back, and now I have to put a plate on it. Do I need to get some stupid bracket, or is the mounting hardware located behind the CORVETTE piece? And how do I take that piece off?

You can just bolt a plate on there, but you really need the factory (or aftermarket) surround that fills in the space on the perimeter of the plate. It has a slot built in that retains the plate, and if you get a color matched one minimizes the ugliness.

This thread comes up about 5x a week. The C5 doesn't look bad with a front plate. The front "corvette" part removes after taking off the 2 smaller screws that are sandwitched on the lower side of the cover. This pulls off. Then attach the plate using some screws in the predrilled holes.

Have you seen a C6 with a front plate? It is literally a bracket that hangs off the car!

The front license plate cover is just held on with two screws located under the lower lip of the cover. Take the screws out, then lift and pull down on the cover to release the two tabs at the top.

Consider getting a painted license plate surround if you plan to continue displaying the front plate. Makes it look so much better.

the sugestion that I liked the best was to remove the cover and install the LP without the surround, then re-attach the cover but use velcro instead of installing the screws. then when you are stoped just say "thank you officer, I was at a car show and put the cover on then forgot about it" then get out take the cover off to show him/her that it is there. put the cover back on at the next opertunity.

this normaly gets you out of a ticket and keeps the uggly off of the car.

Default front plate

So can I pop off the cover, put on the plate, then put the cover back on without removing the plate? I only plan to run the plate to get it inspected, then take it right back off. Or if I can put the cover on and keep the plate under it then I'll just do that.
