Are you talking C6Z? I thought the shifters in the C5 were the same for the LS1 and Z06. I do know that all of the factory shifters have that rubber isolater in the stick, which I think makes the shifts feel mushy.
I had a hurst for 3 years... now I have a C6Z assembly w/ a vette essentials boot. I love it... very short throw, no increased noise, no rattling, and an amazing shift ****.
Changing to a C6 shifter made a world of difference. The shifting is smoother and more positive without requiring any more effort. The **** is much more comfortable, and with the Vette Essentials boot, it looks much better too. I am only sorry that I didn't do it sooner.
I am one to say that shifting in a C6 Z06 shifter DOES require more effort. I changed to that shifter from stock and went back, trying each for months, so I'd get a positive feel. The shifts are more precise, but they DO take more effort on my vehicle.
However, as I said the shifts are more precise and a bit shorter. For me it's a double-edged sword, which one would expect when moving to a shorter shifter.

Pardon the hi-jack, but what do these run new?? Just figured easier to ask here, am lazy tonight. TIA and again i apologize
Another option--I replaced my stock shifter with a B&M Precision Sports shifter and have been very satisfied; firm positive shifts with no rattles or vibration....
