When I use the auto feature on the thermostat, it always lights the a/c button unless I turn the temp up big time...is this normal?
If not, what should I do?

it might be cuz of ur mem. seat.....like if u set it in them summer with ac on it always wants to set it that way......try reseting the memory settings....like 1 or 2......and remeber the #1 fob it the #1 setting hope that helps....
Mine does the same thing. It does seem an unneccessary engine load for cold weather, but I believe the A/C runs to balance out the heat to maintain the cabin temperature that you set.
The reason why the A/c is on is because of the humidity in your car....that is also what the sensor next to your key is for. It monitors the air and temp in your car. If you push it at first it will blink and eventualy go off
