Default whats up

Im having trouble with my E brake. i apply it and my car roles for a few inches then it stops. It doesnt stop it on a dime like i thought it would. is this normal for a Z06? or do i need a little adjusting? The answer would be greatly appreciated. thank you. BROIS

I never tried the e-brake when the car is rolling, only to hold it when it's already stopped. I don't think e-brakes are designed to instantly freeze rotation when the handle is pulled. Personally I wouldn't do that too often. If you're stopped when you apply it and the car rolls then it sounds like it needs adjustment.

I've seen other related threads, and I also believe this to be true:

Don't rely on your e-brake to keep your car from moving!

The Corvette C5 e-brake seems pretty finicky to me overall, and I've seen a few horror stories of people jumping out to get their mail, etc. only to have the car take off on them. I hate to read those stories, and hope to never see another!

You can adjust it by backing (slowly) and raising the handle until it stops the car. Repeat as needed. If it never does stop the car, either there is a problem with your cabling or the e-brake pads are shot... the e-brake actuates pads that ride inside the the rear rotor very similiar to old drum brakes.

Yes and they are about the same size as a drum brake for an ATV. The surface contact area is about 5 square inches for each pad, so its not going to hold a 3200 pound car well. I don't think I would trust it on an incline without the car in gear. Count the number of clicks when you pull it up. after a while as it wears you will get more "clicks " out of it and then you can adjust it or replace the pads. Is there a star adjuster on them? I haven't looked at them yet.

I think that the only thing actualy stopping the car is the gears although you didn't say that you are also leaving it in gear. The trans is the only part of the car that will allow some roll due to play and then stop. The e-brake is either holding or not. I certainly never trust the e-brake alone, and I sugest you don't either.

I'd definitely would not park a Manual trans vehicle relying just on the e-brake.

Unfortunately these are not E-brakes as in Emergency Brakes. They are just a Parking Brake. If you ever have primary brake failure these things will not help. That said it barely holds the car still on an incline.

I adjusted mine as Twil1ght noted. It does help a bit. Once the pads are gone they are gone. There is no real start adjuster like we had on drum brakes in the past. Those little pads are expensive and a pain in the butt to replace. I wish GM had just left it setup like the later C4 where the regular brake pads were used.

Mine works pretty good, so yeah I would have It looked at. Probably needs to be adjusted or something.
