My husband just sold his 2001 pewter coupe he bought new. He wants to purchase a new c6. We have an opportunity to aquire my fathers 2000 magnetic red vert with 7500 miles for $27000. My husband wants a new c6 z51 mn6. Transport from Ca to Nashville for the vert would be $1500 what would you buy???? My husband feels that he can buy what he wants for about 45-46 k. I am concerned about depreciation on the new car. He is oblivious to this. Is my husband crazy. I would really like to purchase my dad's car, but please give me advice as I am new to your corvette forum and really appreciate any input.

Wow, tough choice. Sounds like your Dad's car is really nice. But if you can afford it, go with the C6. Nice to have a factory warranty. Any car will depreciate, and the 2000 still has a way to go.
First, why would you want to trade down from an 01 to an 00? Yea, daddy's car and all, feelnya on the sympathy..but let go of the apron already! Let him get a NEW C6, with factory warranty, below MSRP (probably), and enjoy the car!

Denise,
I'm sure you can come to a comprimise with your husband..I would let him get his car but maybe you can convince your father to hold on to his for a few more years and buy it for yourself..Nothing wrong with being a 2 vette family if you can afford it..
Sounds to me like the C6 bug has already struck. The mind should be clear about no guilt for NOT buying 'daddys' car. To much baggage with that deal, IMHO..
C6 would be the choice for me with the exact options he wants not someone elses car. If he tries to sell off the new car a year or two later be prepared for some big depreciation.
ALthough I love my 2000, he needs to get the C6 for more reasons than I can name. Nothing wrong with the car its just a guy thing. He will appreciate you, the car, and life in general more. When one buys a Corvette, depreciation is one of those things thats not even on the list let alone low on it. Like btchn 99 said, try to talk Dad into keeping his for a while and buy that in a year or two then you both have what you want.
Just a quick suggestion on getting Dad's car if you end up going that way. Why pay for transporting? Why not buy 2 plane tickets, fly to CA, pick the car up and spend quality time driving home? Between the cost of the tickets, gas, and motels it will all equal out anyway.
Your financial history/status should dictate if he buys the C6. And, only you and hubby know that....Good luck w/ whatever you and your husband decide....
