Plate question....
Hey folks, Is there a way to find out if someone in my state already has the vanity plate I want. I hate to fill out the application and write a check...etc.... If I could find out first...tom3257

Hey Tom put in a profile, it lets people know where you are. You can get better answers to questions then.
New york has a website that tells you if a plate is available. Best bet most states do also.

NYSDMV.com lets you "build it" online. If it's available it even shows you what it will look like on the plate.

At least in Missouri, you can call the DMV section that deals with personalized plates and they will tell you if a plate has been taken. Sure saves a lot of frustration.

Illinois doesn't have any way of checking either so I sent them a list of 15 different plate requests stapled to my application and they ran them all. I was able to get # 12 on the list.
