Thanks. The R's would have been another $500 which we weren't willing to spend. I also don't really know the difference between the two.
The difference is in the spokes and rims. The R versions use a more rounded (from hub back to the rim) spoke set up so that there's more of a "dish" to the rims. I think this also allows the spokes to be a bit longer, as there's less material between the end of the spokes and the rims. Subsequently, there's more open space between the spokes.

Welcome to the yellow-C5-with-HRE's club! Enjoy!!
Only if HRE said that on thier website. I also found out you need 18" R wheels to clear a big brake kit is that right? BTW your car looks great!

Thanks! Yes, that's true -- The R's clear bigger brakes (and the non-R's do not). Some folks have ground down a tab on their rear callipers to allow the wheels to clear, but I'm not into grinding anything associated with my brakes!
Don't sweat your wheel decision -- they look great!
Actually, my car has 18" on the front and 19" on the rear!!
I have the Baer Eradispeed 2-piece rotors on the front & rear and Z06 Calipers!! No problem stopping my baby at the end of the track!
JJ!
P.S. As for lowering your car, just lower it on the stock bolts like mine. (Wouldn't want mine much lower...too many speed bumps at the mall!)
