My check engine light came on Friday. I went through several start/stop cycles, and it magically disappeared on Sunday. I have an 04 with 10k miles on it. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks.
I just checked the dic and it said 10pcm 1 code.
Should it then show something more specific. It flashed through a bunch of codes first.
Regardless, if the engine light is now off, has it "cured" itself?
There should be a code stored with an H or a C following indicating whether it is History or Current. If the light has gone off then it probably has reset itself. I wouldn't worry about it unless it comes back.
04 with 10k should still be under warranty.
take it to the dealer and let them worry about the code and fixing the problem.
good luck
I'll certainly check with the dealer as it is still under warranty, one year left. I rechecked the dic and found a code that I can't find listed anywhere. It is from 10pcm listed as PO491. I don't see this number anywhere?
As I said before though, the light is off, so I assume no problem?
Did you buy a different Brand of gasoline lately?
The only time I had a check engine light was with a tank of BP gas in Effingham IL.
As soon as I put another brand in, it cleared itself.
A tank of gas with higher than nornmal ethanol can lean out the engine and cause a check engine light and throw lean left bank and lean right bank codes.
Leaving the gas cap loose can also cause a check engine light, but in that case it would be an evaporative emissions code.

Next time save wear and tear on your starter - hit the reset button for DIC. It will clear codes that show up and if it's serious the code will come up again - you are under warranty take it to the stealership and let them deal with it.

The start/stop cycles were over several days in the normal course of driving.
Not long ago I was getting some weird DIC messages and Check Engine lights. Ran all the codes and a slew of history code, but nothing current (except an ongoing P0801 C)
Pulled fuses #23 and #25 to reset everything, and it went away. Two days later went to dinner in it. An hour later came back and battery was dead. Not enough energy to raise the headlights.
New battery - and cleared all the codes. The check engine light stayed on for maybe 3 or 4 more start cycles then went away.
Probably electrical gremlins at work somewhere......
