the plan involves a sound system that will call for a a minimum of 100amps peaking at 200. (two 150x 2 amps and 1 single 800W sub amp) possible another 15 amps for an aftermarket ignition system
The alternator is designed to provide enough current to opperate the vehicle and keep the battery charged. It does not offer "extra". It will work with add ons but you will shorten life span. In your situation it would be best to use a high output alternator.
What aftermarket ignition are you thinking of using? Is there something new for the C5?
from what i've read on the MSD ignition site, the MSD coils use about 15 more amps than the stock coils. I think they can also be used with the MSD 6 or 6A multiple spark systems.

I did not know that about the MSD coils....I have them on my car. I have never seen a LS1 with an aftermarket ignition system. I did not think the car would benifet from one.
Call Art at Can-Am motors in Tampa, Fl. He makes a plug and play HO alternator for the LS1. (813) 935-0152 or (813) 935-4199. Tell him Randy sent you...he built the alternator for my car.
from what i understand, the MSD coils aren't nessicary unless you have forced induction or nitrous...anything that would make the fuel/air denser which would require more energy to completely ignite the mixture. (hence the MSD 6a which is supposed to have 3 seperate sparks per cycle in the lower rpm ranges) I had one in my 97 silverado. While it doesn't add any power, it makes it run SO much smoother.
I have FI and NOS on my car...it made 790 RWHP without the MSD coils and I have seen over 1000 RWHP cars with stock coils. It was my understanding that they were not needed. I was just wondering if something changed.
