Very sad weekend this last. I put my baby away in storage. I had planned to build a new garage for the vette and some other toys this past summer but I was extremely busy at work this year and the local building department gave me a hard time about building with home made plans. I have built three major additions to my house with my own plans in the past but it is now not allowed. Any way now I no longer get the thrill of walking into my garage and looking at that beautifull MYZ06. I will continue to go get her on weekends when the weather is nice untill the first salt goes down here in NJ. After that shes done till spring rains wash the last of the salt away. Although I love the change of seasons and the winter putting the Z away almost makes me want to move south. To all of you southern boys and you California dreamers, take a spin around the block for me in January, and remind me of the feeling. It may save my sanity just about then.
To be honest.... **** the salt... who cares. the car is mostly SMC (plastic fiberglass) and won't rust oc corrode.
Yeah the front and rear subframes/cradels are aluminum as are the control arms, but that's nothing a good power washer can't take care of once a week.
Who are you saving it for?
Actualy I am saving it for myself. Salt is as bad on aluminum as it is on steel although there is also plenty of steel on our cars,(main frame). On aluminum corosion will cause the surface to pit and blister, but worse it weakens the internal structure of the material, without being as visable as on steel. I also don't like the constant bombardment that the paint takes from the grit and salt that is thrown at it constantly in winter driving. As sad as I am to put it away for now, I take solice in the knowledge that the car will run like new for me for years, because I have the ability to drive something else in bad weather. And anyway driving a car like this in bad weather is only about as much fun as driving any other car, since you can't take advantage of the awsome acceleration or great handling. So why beat it if you don't have to.
Just got back from a nice grand tour of VIR (virginia international raceway) it sure is a great track. Had to leave the Z06 home due to the rain today. Former New Yorker, the leaves still look great here in N.C. I don't miss the snow, icy and salt. Just checked for you they say there is room for at least 1 more family in N.C. Hope to see you

Thanks for the invite but I like NJ too much, and moving my company would be a PIA. I would also not feel too good about putting 10 guys out of work, or making them move. Also my brother lives in Charlot and he sometimes gets more snow than we do here. I'll stay here and wallow in my pitty, but I sure do appreciate all your words of encouragement.
Feel sorry for all you Northerners. I don't think I could put my Z away for a couple of months. I pull it out every weekend and sometimes take it to work when I don't want to drive my 86 Monte Carlo SS.

In Ontario the salt is mixed with winter sand. After a few snowfalls the highways collect a lot of sand along the shoulders. When you are behind an 18 wheeler it picks the debris up and blasts your paint with the mixture.
You really have to wait it out until the Spring rains flush it off of the highways. In the cities you can get away with driving during the warm spells. Where I am located you can't, the paint would simply be destroyed on the lower body panels.
The temp got upto 70 here today and even warmer for tomorow! Gonna drive mine till the salt flies. I won't have to part with my car though, it's got a nice dry garage to stay in.
