Drivers side lap belt
I yanked on the drivers side lap belt to see how it would react and it extended to the end and it will not retract; If my waist was a 60 it would be perfect.
Is it a quick fix to get the seat belt to retract properly or is it an involved fix ? The belt should retract into the part located between the sill and the seat, right next the power seat controls. Is this a common occurence on a 2000 coupe ?
You *may* have dislodged the plastic feed piece on the retractor assembly.
Remove the sill plate and then the plastic surrounding the lower seat belt assembly to inspect. It is a plastic piece that surrounds the belt and is clipped into the retractor to keep the belt from being damaged by the metal frame. I had something similar happen to me.
There may have been a recall on the belt assembies but I'm not positive.
There was a seat belt recall for the 99's. Don't know about your year. I would check to see if that is covered under a recall. You can check at the dealership and there may be someone in here who knows where to check online.

Your tip on a possible recall made me search the internet and I found the following: 2000 Chevrolet corvette recall ID from NHTSA 00V111000.
Vehicle component: Seat belts : front.
Estimated vehicles affected: 71569
Dates of manufacture: Oct. 1996-Aug.1999 ( my car is a 2000 so I don't know if it would be included in this recall)
Remedy: Dealers will install inserts to the web guide of each lap belt retractor.
Owners who did not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020. { NHTSA Recall # 00V111/GM Recall # 00034 }
I don't know if this will help me as I have a 2000 corvette, but I will find out.
On a lot of cars, you can't yank the seat belt fast enough for it to lock. It takes sudden/instant impact to engage the lock. I could sometimes yank the belt on my C4, and it would lock, but not all the time. You can yank tiil you're blue in the face on my 2000, and it won't lock, but the other day, I had to make a MAJOR panic stop, and it locked up just fine.

Stickman (you're not a craps dealer are you ?) I called Chevrolet
and found out my car was built after the recall date. The seat belt recall affected cars with the last 8 numbers of the vin....y5100001 thru ...y5104470 ; my vin number was higher than y5104470 so my car was not affected by the recall.
Different subject: I also found out a recall regarding the steering column was not done and should be done. I will get this done by the dealership.
This little exercise was interesting and turned up some useful information.
Appreciate your help/insight and the others that responded.
