Default For Those Considering 3.90 Gears....

Do it!! I just got my car back from A&A and I'm happy!! At first I was going with 3.73's, I was concerned with going to low and the engine winding too quickly, but Andy talked me into 3.90's & I'm so glad he did. 1st is traction limited but when you get it just right, MAN does it go!!!
In LA freeway traffic, I can actually use 6th gear and 4th is perfect for 50 mph or so - a bit of throttle gets me right into the meat of the powerband and BAM! Let of the throttle and engine braking slows you down. I should've done this months ago.

BTW- the Z has full bolt ons - 457 rwhp / 420 rwtq -

Hey Pio,

That sounds great , I was thinking about a 3.90 mod a couple of years ago.

Funniest thing, Andy was telling me a month ago that 3.73s were better - something to do with who manufactured them (I must of misunderstood him).

I'm trying to decide between heads, rear-end or Vortec SC as my next mod(s). It seems if I want C6Z performance I need to go with a SC. Heads and rear-end will cost almost as much as a SC and with a SC I can keep the longer gears.

How come you never went with a SC?
How's your C5Z compare to your C6Z now?

Thanks,
MarkT

Hi Mark-

I love my H/C/LT set up - the cam is very mild and the set up starts pulling from 2.5K on up. With the gears, its like its always ready. I chose a milder cam because I was more interested in the curve and not peak HP. With a wilder cam, I could probably be making another 10 to 15 horse- but the car has power everywhere in the band.
It has very minimal shake at idle and sounds like a NASCAR racers when the revs are up. I absolutely love this car.

As for the C6Z - its at A&A right now, Andy is testing a new SC set up. I should have the car back sometime next week, very excited, cant wait to drive it.

The Z's are worlds apart, mainly because the 5 has suspension bits and pieces & R compound tires, the handling has impressed two of my "snoby" Porsche friends, the 6 feels floaty and soft by comparison. In terms of power the C6's 427 is just awesome, after 50 mph or so, the new car just keeps pulling and pulling and 100 plus mph just happens soooo quick and effortlessly.

If I had to do it all over again, I would look at a blower - the SC is CARB legal, and it makes a bit more power then H/C. Thats the set up I'm looking for the C6Z, it currently has long tubes and the blower should be good for another 100 hp, I'm hoping to knock on the 600 hp door. If your ever in the Marina Del Rey / Playa area, let me know so you can check them out.
