[Z06] halltech trap vs stinger
. When Jim Hall first came out with the TRAP, it got a lot of positive comments. He posted some dyno #s and there were some 1/4 mile times showing some pretty impressive results. You may be able to do an archive search and look for those posts (2+ years ago?)

The main thinkg that I like about the stinger is the ability to get to the filter - although you really don't have to clean these filters frequently (probably 50k miles for most folks that don't live on a gravel road).
The airbridge on the trap I have causes a slight bulging of the hood in the center where it makes contact when the hood is closed - no big deal but an observation.
I have no hard strip numbers - but I was running ~372-374 rwhp with just the TRAP and a tune.
If I were buying one today, I would go for the stinger personally.
That said - I would just be modding my stock airbox if I had no intake or throttle body/maf mods - that would flow as much air as the maf could handle anyway.

If you have a stock MAF and TB - just mod your airbox lid and save the money -
No - the aftermarket air intake systems are not worth the $$$ if you are running a stock MAF and TB.

Hi Robert -
One of our forum members showed that the MAF is the limiting factor in the flow of our intake systems.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ight=RedHotZO6
He put several systems on a flow bench, and the flow rate for a modded stock airbox lid was greater than the flow capabilities of a stock MAF.
Perhaps the colder air is a factor - but for the money - with a stock MAF and TB, I stand by my advice.
Also - looking at the fast list - most (if not all) of the cars listed as CAI are also running drag radials....Might have some impact on launch? I don't see a list of otherwise stock with just CAI as compared to otherwise stock and modded stock airbox.
To each his own - please note that I too spent the bucks on aftermarket CAI for both of my cars - but I would not have had I known what I know now.
best regards-

Well - if the stock MAF limit cannot be reached, then that says it all.
The question was not does a CAI breath freer than a stock airbox, it was are they worth the $$$?
I added, for the original poster, my opinion, that since a MODDED stock airbox flows (for all intents and purposes) as well as the aftermarket CAI's (reference my link above...), I opined that the CAI money is better spent elswhere (headers or such for instance).
So - if a modded stock airbox can outflow the maf, and by your own admission the MAF limit might never be reached, I rest my case your honor.
Again - the fast list does not show any proof that CAI is the bomb - it does show that drag radials will lower your et's significantly (along with mad driving skills).
For my purposes, and I do not sell any performance parts, I am a consumer, the stock modded box will do 'ya until you open up the intake tract on the engine side.
So I guess I do have it figured out.
BTW - love your harley - looks like a chop you could actually RIDE - nice job.

i have one that u dont have to cut throgh the radiator shroud
The TRAP sustem has two "airbridge" pieces, one that replaces the stock airbridge and another that runs from the maf up under the front frame rail and puts the filter right behind the license plate. In a Z06, it is (in theory) getting much cooler air from the screens in the front fascia.
The Stinger eliminates the second tube and puts the air filter in the stock airbox location.
