I'm assuming you're referring to the engine RPO codes LS1 and LS6 in the C5 Corvettes ....
LS doesn't "stand" for anything.
In the early 1960's GM started using a 3 position code for "Regular Production Option" (RPO) identification.
Generally, codes starting with an L in the Chevy line are engines ... and since the code can be a combination of letters and numbers, previous Corvettes have had engine RPOs such as L88, LS1, and LT5.
Generally, RPO's starting with a Z are "performance" options (or option packages). Hence in the 1960s a package was offered on the Corvette called Z06, and in the Camaro line there was the well known Z28 package.
A last example is codes starting with U as these are generally radio/entertainment system options.
