Default Interior LEDs

I have noticed some interest in changing the original bulbs over to LEDs of different colors [ blue, orange, red, or bright white ].

I replaced the bulbs in my armrests with bright white, and it made a big improvement. I have the equipment and can do it quickly.

For those that want the color but not the hassle, I am thinking of offering to do it as a service for a nominal charge.

I don't know if anyone would be interested in this. I have a stock of bright white, red, blue and amber leds that can be installed instead of the bulbs.

What I propose is to send me the bulb/retainer, and I would replace with the LED of choice. The LEDs require a resistor to prevent burnout, and the resistor is exposed. It requires some care in handling, but once installed, it is fine.

Let me know your thoughts

My thoughts are this:

First, I suspect most people who want the LED mod in their interiors are going to want more done than just the door controls.

Secondly, it's going to depend on your pricing.

Third, you're going to need to convince a few brave souls to be your test subjects. Once you establish your reputation as an honest guy who does great work at a reasonable price with excellent customer service and fast turnaround, you may stand a chance of making a few bucks and establishing a nice little side cottage industry.

The only efficient way to run that type of operation would be to start with an inventory. When the customer tells you what color they send you their parts and you send the ones with the new leds. Point being it does take time to solder the the a/c and stereo and you will need the bulb holders for the doors and other peices. A customer is not going to want to be missing parts for more than a few days. I think someone has tried this before and gave up on it. Good luck.

I totally agree with all of you, especially j99vette about establishing an inventory to reduce 'down time.' That's why my first step was to just ask to see what level of interest there is.

This could be fun in a couple of years when I retire.....

thanks to all for the input. I will keep monitoring and see what comes along.

I think there is a market. But as mentioned, it would have to be handled properly.

Yes, some of those can be used. If you have the Electrochromatic mirror, it already uses LED's that are not that bright and too yellow IMO. My car has this and I replaced mine with White LED's. I had to unsodder each and insert the new ones. Same goes for the HVAC controler and factory radio. These three area if you do not have any experience with electronics do not attempt your self.

I can help anybody in my area who wants to do these, just PM me to set up a time. Or as I have posted earlier, I am holding a LED mod day at my house Saturday Nov 25. See my earlier post for a link to the thread for the Mod Day.
