for the last couple of times i have driven my car the gas guage will go to empty when there is about a half a tank. After restarting it everything will seem fine and the gas guage will go back to where it suppose to be the then after about maybe 20-30min of driving i will look down and it shows its completely empty and when i look at the range it gives no read out. Does anyone of the problem and how to fix it?
thanks

Sometimes gas that has a high sulfur content in it will cause the sending units to go wacky. Try running a bottle or two of Techron through the tank and see if that helps. Might try switching brands of gas too. If that doesn't work, it could actually be the sending units are going bad and may need replacement.
I started having a somewhat similar problem myself. The last couple of times I went to start the car, the gauge would read "empty" for about 2-3 minutes, then go up to where it should be. This is the first that I've ever experienced this, in the 5 years I've had the car.
I've been putting in a bottle of Techron every year, as none of the "top tier" brands of gas are sold in my area. Hopefully, the BIG bottle of Techron I just dumped in will fix this.

Yes...start putting a bottle of Techron (by Chevron) in every other fill-up...put the "20 gal. size" initially, in an almost empty tank to start...then use the 12 gal. size on subsequent alternate fill-ups at 1/4 tank levels & you should never have this problem again....
If you still are under warranty, you might want to check out a sender replacement. I tried Techron on-and-off for a year and finally told my dealership that I wanted the problem fixed. They replaced the units at no cost to me and the problem never returned. Thank heaven for GMPP.
thanks for all the tips guys! I am going to go put Techron in today. I hoping its not the sender because the gas i put in my car is 91 octane from chevron which has the techron in it. BUt i'll keep my fingers crossed and let you know of the results. thanks again
the infamous fuel-sending unit problem. Been happening since 1999 I believe. I think its happening even on the C6's if I recall reading a C6 post on it awhile back

I am very fimiliar with this problem and was about to get the fuel sending unit replaced and was told about SEA FOAM. I made sure that I was running a TOP TIER fuel and put a can of SEA FOAM in the tank. I ran this out and followed with another can and fuel tank and it is going on a year and now issues. Two cans of SEA FOAM...$13.00 was a lot better than replacing a fuel sending unit.
It is important to use TOP TIER gasoline, burns cleaner and is a fuel that doesn't seem to effect the sending unit like the other fuels out there.

Good luck,

Techron made my problem worse, SEA FOAM did the trick. Have had ZERO fluctuations
They all have this problem or will get this problem. Even changing out the sending units wont fix it permanently. If you get gas at a Chevron station, their gas already has Techron in it. Thats what Ive been doing ever since I had the problem.
Its not the new max, 91 is the highest octane at the pump ever since i could remember. sucks too because we pay more per gallon then the rest of the country for lesser octane

I have tried all the above, I think I may need to replace the sending units. I had them replaced on warrenty once, fixed the problem for about a year then returned.
