I went to the automotive paint store to get some Torch Red to paint a fender and the counter person kind of copped an attitude and asked what the paint code was and that there was 3 torch red paint formulas. I said it is a 02 torch red and he didn't care he wanted a paint code but couldn't tell me where it is on the car.
Also, as mentioned above, the Paint Code (without the WA prefix) should appear on your car's Service Parts Identification (RPO) Label found on the inside of the glove box lid for your model year. In the example below, "U 382E" is the Paint Code for this car which is painted Pewter Metallic (RPO 11U).

This place is the BEST. You members that have all this info "logged" amaze me everytime I poke around these threads. Thank you for your responces and time. Each day I learn a little bit more. I guess you CAN teach an "old dog" new tricks!

It's always good to have the paint code when you ask for paint, but IMO the guy could have been a lot more helpful. Maybe next time try another store that has better customer service.
I live in Guatemala, Central América where I have a 1990 C4 and I will take the car to the paint shop next week. The car was originally Turquoise Green Metallic and then was painted Red, but it was painted in very bad quality paint.
Some months ago, the Pacaya Volcano made an eruption and the hot ash covered my Vette and ruin (more than it was) the paint.
So I decided to paint the car again but I want to paint it Torch Red and I have one question........ does all the Torch Red paints in several years are the same color.....? because I saw at least two different code numbers in a magazine.
I want to paint my car in the brightest, deepest, wildest, sexiest, "please arrest me" red color possible. So, what Torch Red code may I use to impress my wife, children and grandchildren...........?
Greetings from Guatemala Central América..............
I have a thread started regarding touching up a torch red speaker grill. Since I don't own a torch red exterior C5, does anyone know what paint code I would use when trying to match the paint for the torch red/mod red speaker grill?
From: Should this thoughtful, valuable contribution meet with no acknowledgement or 'thanks' this post----
yes, there are at least 2 torch red codes...the problem is GM released torch red again on the C6 last year...BUT! it is a different shade vs. the original that was released for the C5!...go figure. So, the guy was right...you need a paint code off your driver door or other place as mentioned above to get the right torch red.
the speaker grill red is not torch red...it came from a supplier to GM already painted, it is not painted at the factory, therefore, there is no correlation to the body paint which is an entirely different animal....you won't find a paint code for the grill as I told you in your other post...doesn't exist...maybe you can get an engineering drawing of the grill from a GM product engineer some day...it may call out the actual paint company and a code, but even then it may not be available in a spray can as in production a much different system of application is used.

Thanks. Since I have a new OEM GM Red speaker grill, I will simply work with an automotive paint supplier, i.e. SEM and have them match the paint to the speaker grill. It doesn't have to be exactly perfect, just close.
I am only going to add the red speaker grills if I decide to go with mod red glove box and lower knee bolster. If I choose not to, I am keeping the speaker grills black.
