you can get yours swapped out and completely refurbished by a couple of guys on ebay.
my button lights were out and i went this route. the guy sent me a perfect replacement first and i sent my old one back after i got his.
there's also guys who will only fix the one you send them so you'll be out of a heater for a week or so.

I believe I have read about the one on EBay you are talking about. that might be the best route to take. I would just have to remove the old one and install the new one. Do you know why this seems to me such a common problem with GM?
