Default G5X3 results

Finally got my Z dynoed with my X3 cam shaft installed. It was 40 degrees out this morning in N florida.

Prior to cam SWAP, Lt's with cats dynoed: 378 RWHP 372 RWTQ

with cam and ASP Pully added to above: 409 RWHP 372RWTQ

I thought that I would se 420's - 430 RWHP as mention by the LG guys but I guess I'll have to live with 409

Z drives fine and idles great. Pulls like a raped ape after 4200 all the way to red line@ 6800.

Good numbers. I am also thinking along those lines. I have installed the headers now I need to get the G5x3 going.

Couple of questions:
1) so the cam did not make any difference in the Torque?
2) Mine is a daily driver how is the driveability after the cam install?
3) Did you just do the Cam or the whole LG package with spring valves?? etc??

Thanks

I was also suprised that my tourque remaind the same. My Z isn't a DD but I sure drive it when ever I can. It drives about the same but I must start on first gear with a little higher RPM then stock. Not bad. Just doesn't like to be lugged around town in the 1200-1600 band in 4-6th gears. No I just bought the cam through LG and had my tuner purchase a set of dual comp cam spring kit w Molly rods and ASP pulley. I'm happy but thought that I was going to make more horese, but 409 isn't nothing to sneeze at. A good tuner can make this cam do what you want it to do on both ends of the power band.

It seems from the list of mods, no headers. They should give you antoher 15-20hp with the cam. do not know why the torque didn't change though. most cams are worth 20-30hp by themsleves, the biggest gain comes with the headers. i'm not a tuner/mechanic, this is just what i've read, and from what friends have experienced. My car is at ECS right now, getting their new custom cam, underdrive pulley, oil pump, springs, timing chain etc...The car already has headers/hi flow cats/vararam,160* t-stat/ and I did a before dyno of 368rwhp/367rwtq. Can't wait till the after dyno gets done to see the improvements the cam makes. And since the before and after dyno pulls are being done on the same dyno by the same shop the results will be like comparing apples to apples.

I would have expected more also from your setup. You have LS6 heads and your cam is fairly large.

As for pep's stating you'll only get 30hp from a cam. That is not true at all. I gained 50hp from the smaller MTI X-1 cam and stock LS1 heads. And no UD pulley yet "out of stock at the time". Below is the sheet. MTI "in Houston" installed all of my engine mod's.

Car dyno'ed 302rwhp bone stock.
Added halltech intake, Kook's Lt's w/hi-flow cats, Corsa cat back and tune for 334rwhp.

Added X-1 cam and re-tune for 384rwhp.

You haven't said if you have a CAI; assuming you do, that seems 20 to 30hp low. I'm getting 409.5rwhp and 388.75rwtq from a smaller cam (220/224, .581, 114LSA).

Did you change your plugs? Could you be loosing rwhp in your tranny or rearend?

In any case, CONGRATS, I got to agree with you that the 409 club sure does make a difference!!!

Very interested in seeing your numbers too...

MikeP - Wondering who did the install/tune for you? I'm you neighbor in PC.

I went with the guys @ XXX motorsports in Pensacola. John knows what he's doing when it comes to tuning a cam. Not that appealing shop to look at, but they are having a new shop being built next door. Giys are getting started on their own but do good work. His prioces aren't bad from what I shopped around and found. I purchased the cam,oil +filer and dexcool. He bought all other parts(Dual comp prings, retainers, belts, gaskets, pulleyplugs, rods . Install + dyno tune out the door $1750. It was $650 cam swap, $250. tune due to prior customer. Let me know if want his number

Mike,

which Long Tubes do you have? LG Pro's or LG Street Series, or something else?

And if you would like to get your tuner to send a copy of the tune, maybe we can check it out.

Let me know.

thanks

His #'s seem more or less what I thought a cam should give you. Maybe you should get a tune or a re-tune If you already had one. Somethings not right there, but nice #'s regardless

Lou I have the LG street's w/cats. As far as my tuner sending you a copy of my tune setup, I'll ask. Can he do this via the internet? Are you asking for a print out of all my numbers assoicated with the tune? I'll email him and see if he will do comply.

Yeah those numbers definitely seem low. Most guys get that with a small cam. Maybe Lou can find something wrong. Good luck with it!

PS-that total for those parts, install and tune was pretty expensive too. Here I can get a cam install for $500,and than a dyno-tune from one of the best for $299. TSP spring kit is like $299. Sounds like a lot was charged for those parts that he provided, that aren't all that expennsive.

Congrats with your new #'s...as a few others have stated, I'm a bit suprised your rwtq didn't increase at all with the bigger cam.

The car had all the timing it would take without KR and A/F was 13.0. For all the guys guessing the tune, do you guys do it for a living or just buy into the internet hype you see online? I've done several Z06's with the X3 in it and they usually make 410-420 with 385-395 torque on my dyno. Mikes car didn't. Funny that it is always the tune anytime something isn't just what someone read on the internet. The before dyno was not done at the same time as the cam so maybe something changed with the car, cat went bad, acc going bad, who knows. My dyno is not a forgiving setup either. It is a brand new Dynojet 224xLC. It is a little stingy on the numbers. Many of you are using your dyno number a little to strongly. A dyno is a tuning tool as every dyno in the country will vary some. If we are mainly number hunting, Mike can go to Adams Auto in his home town and dyno there. The last car we had do 418 went there a week later and laid down 443. BTW........I tuned that one also.

Good to see Mike second guessing me in his other thread also. So why was it Mike that you couldn't even sleep due to me having your car. Do you trust me that little? How many other shops would let the customer stand there and watch the entire process take place. Mike didn't leave my shop for a second. I know my shop isn't a site for eyes, but was that needed? Just kinda un nerves me that my staff and I went out of our way to make sure you were happy with the setup.

And for the guy bashing my price, add it up buddy. Mike got the install, pushrods, all gaskets replaced, spring kit, new plugs, ASP pulley, both belts, and a dyno tune. Maybe Lou will Post what Mikes bill would have been at his shop for the above listed. I'm sure LG will agree with me that my prices was fair.

Sorry I don't mean to "bash" you, but I did add it up. I certainly agree your prices are very reasonable relative to LG shop prices, and many other shops as well. I am talking about places where you actually get a decent price though. Call me silly, but I just don't think mechanics really need to be paid $100+/hour + upcharged parts. But it's america so god bless ya and the people willing to pay that.
