Just a bit of a thread about memories.
As an old dude (60 yo) I was just thinking about my first exposure to a Corvette. I was just turning 8 when my cousin bought a 53 Vette, brand new and I was given a ride around the block. To this day I can remember that ride and that car. I remember that the seat was about three inches off the floor or something like that an my legs almost laid flat out on the floor. I remember going fast, but I am sure that the old Blue Flame wasn't getting us anywhere that quick. I also remember the chrome grills over the headlights and the rear lights that reminded me of a rocket ship. I also remember that he only had the car about four months when a truck forced him off the road and he tore up the undercarriage on a stone wall. Front end was damaged a bit as I recall but it was driveable with a slight wheel wobble. My cousin was in college and it sat in my uncles garage for a while then he scrapped it out. Sure would like to have it now. The $$$ would be great.
Took my first ride in a brand new 62 327-340 black convertible with red interior with a buddy of mine. Drove from Louisiana to California. returned along Route 66 most of the way ( Route 66 real popular on tv at the time) Been hooked ever since. First new Corvette a 427-450 66 Black Convertible ( still have the car ) Had corvettes ever since.
When I was 12, some new neighbors moved in next door. They had a '63 split, a '73 Anniv, and a '69 vert. Needless to say, I was hooked on cars. Although it took me a until about 5 years ago to finally own a Vette, a black '99 Coupe. I'm now on my second, an '04 Comm Ed Coupe, and can't see myself ever being without a Vette.
I remember seeing Corvettes around while I was growing up and was impressed with their looks, but knew they were out of my price range.
Then I had my first experience. I was in the Navy and my parents moved from Chicago to Florida. I came home on leave and found a 66 427/425 vert in the garage. I was informed it was mine if I wanted it. My father at the time owned a gas station (for those old timers like me 60yo, they were a place where you not only got gas, but you had your car serviced and repaired), and it was a customers car that simply wanted someone to take over the payments. It only took about a second to say yes . I believe the payments were like $130 a month. I guess the main thing I will always remember was the brut power that big block put out.
Well that started it I have since then owned a 77, 85 and now 01. Each one will always have special memories

Great!! I too recall when garages provided everything from WS Washer fluid to full engine replacements.
Got to ask you when your Dad said you could have it if you wanted it did you turn it down????
