I have been looking for a good deal on a C5 for a while, and have found something I might actually go for. Its a 2000 MY 6-speed coupe. Only problem is, it has 77K miles. While it is the average according to KBB, I keep thinking that for the money, maybe I could do better with miles. Mainly for years I was only looking for 99-02 only, so this fits in there. On the brightside, its at Carmax, and since I bought my Trans AM from there a couple years ago I liked the piece of mind. Plus I can get a warranty and I know it will be mechanically sound. But I am just looking for an opinion on what to do because they're asking $19,998 for it, and for that money I might be able to find a better deal on something without "space shuttle" miles.
If the car is in great condition, has been taken care of properly, and is what you are looking for, don't worry about the miles. You stated you could purchase a warranty...offer 15,000 and split the difference...go for it and then DILYSI.

But its carmax, I can't offer anything but the price asked, no haggling
Two things you can do! Get this because it's newer and most Vette owners don't thrash the Vette but drive them as daily drivers, hence the higher mileage or get an older one ( I purchased my '98 w/78,000 miles on the clock for $17,000) and use the extra money for Mod's.
But all in all the Vette should be clean and not abused, you'll be able to tell if it is or not! All the best let us know what you get!

I firmly believe that you severely limit your choices by limiting your geographic search. I think you can find a car in that price range with lower miles if you look beyond say 100 miles of your home. I live in Phoenix and bought my car in Chicago. I'd suggest that you keep looking until you find EXACTLY what you want. My advice is when you buying your dream car is to not compromise.

Yea, I think you are right, and this does not have the chrome wheels, F45/55 suspension or a few other things that I know I'll find on another car probably in the month after I buy that one. Plus, I need to sell my current car first so I'll have all that much more to put down on it. I'll be able to pay off fast if I do that.

Be patient and look far and wide. There are probably others out there with less miles for around the same price and if you want certain options on the car, don't compromise. You'll regret it later.
I would not worry about mileage, if you find a car with very low miles you will be afraid to drive it and put more miles on it. If the price is right and option content is correct go for it.
The '98 Vette vert I just bought has 232,000 miles runs like a champ. Sure it needs a few things but I'm not going to worry about putting more miles on it.
