I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather here in Pennsylvania today, so I fired up the '98 and took her for a spin. Almost immeadiately after pulling out of the driveway, I got a High Oil Temperature warning on the DIC, and when I hit the gages button, the oil temp read 392 degrees! Even though I figured that this was impossible, I just went around the block and cut the drive short. Anybody got any ideas? Bad oil sender a likely cause?
I'm in the middle of replacing the Bose with a Pioneer Nav unit, so several things are disconnected, but they are things located in the console, like the traction control, which also brought up an expected warning. Also, the HVAC controls are out of the car, but I wouldn't think that any of this would cause an oil temp warning.
Since it happened immediately I would have to go with the bad sender theory or even just a glitch. Sometimes these things reset themselves after shutting off the car for awhile or disconnectiong the battery overnight. Keep us posted.
