Default Block Heater

I ordered the block heater package Part#: 12371540 from Gmpartsdirect.com

does anyone have any experience installing these, as much as i know it goes in where your freeze out plug is, i believe, correct me if i'm wrong, and if so does anyone know the proper installation of a block heater in a '98 C5?

thanks
-Brian.

In my 2001 Service Manual it looks like there is a "port" in the block for the heater. It most likely has a "plug" in it right now (probably looks like a large bolt screwed into the block). It appears to be just forward of the engine mount. According to the manual if you remove the Left Front wheel you can get to the plug.

Basically the steps are:

Drain cooling system

Remove existing plug

Clean opening in the block to remove any sealant or paint.

Remove cord from heater so you are installing only the heater plug.

Apply a bead of sealant GM P/N 12346004 (or equivalent) to the heater sealing washer

Insert the heater

Tighten to 30 lb ft (40 N m)

Install the cord to the heater

Install wheel (if removed)

Fill cooling system

Pop a beer and relax .... (that's my instruction .. it ain't in the manual)
