What happens if I go one inch wider. Need a wider tire? If I go with the wider rim will I have any rubbing problems. Looking at:
Front - 17x9.5 BC 5x4.75 Offset +54mm
Rear - 18x10.5 BC 5x15x4.75 Offset +58mm
These are essentially Z06 specs. So if you're buying new tires get the Z06 sizes - but I don't think you can get runflats. If you already have standard C5 size tires, you can still use them.
If you're giving up runflats, then almost any high performance tire will provide a "better" ride. But even the Z06 size non-runflats aren't any wider (treadwidth) than OEM runflats, so looks won't be affected much. Tire Rack's website can give you lots of info to help you decide.
Bob, those numbers indicate max width sidewall to sidewall, not treadwidth.
Yes, I understand the difference between section width and treadwidth. I have owned both and can state with 100% certainty that an OEM Z06 tire (295mm section width) is not the same treadwidth as an OEM C5 tire (275mm section width). I'll grant you however that the Z06 295's are not the expected 20mm wider in treadwidth (actually closer to 13mm), as noted in the published specs from Goodyear's website, below.
I'm sorry Bob. I guess I should have been more specific. Tire Rack lists Supercars at 10.2 tread width for 295/35-18. In any case, I wasn't specifically referring to Supercars, just Z06 size tires of any manufacturer. My apologies.
My point is, and you confirmed, that section width and tread width are seldom related.
