I have a 98 coupe that the original owner installed a Borla X pipe and straight back exhaust. There is only a small muffler / resonator that feeds both pipes. The pipes go straight back and end in two large tips.
While I do think the system helps performance and sounds great WOT at most times the sound drones and is an intrusion on conversation, music etc....
I know some will say just shift up or down to get into a comfort zone but just about any RPM over 1800 is a problem.
My question is does anyone know what Borla pipes could be added to the existing to tone things down a bit? I would rather swap out as little a possible of what is installed for $$ sake.
I don't know if this will help, but I put Stingers on my MN6 first, and had too much drone. I then added the "front section of the XR-1 system" in place of the stock X-pipe (a cut and weld/clamp job). The combination is still pretty loud, but the droning is significantly less and the backfiring/popping is totally gone. Incidently, this exhaust system combination along with a Z06 airbox/K&N and a LS1 Edit tune netted 331 RWHP & 338 RWT.
