Default C5 98' vs. 01?

Any differences? Where can I find this out?

I basically want to know if the 98 C5 has the same engine as the 01 C5? And does the C5 ZO6 have the same engine as the 98 C5?

THANK YOU!

Pat

HP increased from 345 to 350 in '01 for coupe & convertible as the result of using the same intake as the Z06. Z06 is 385 HP in 2001, 405 in 2002+.

I may have to settle for a 99-00' C5. Could I still make 450whp/450whtq with just bolt ons? If not, cams?

Nope C5 used a MN6, the Z06 MN12.
Good luck in your search.

I don't know if this matters but the '98 did not have the heads up display option. Not sure if all '98's had the sport seats in them or not.

the MN12 (Z06 trans) acts like a 3.90 for gears 1-2 and then like a 3.42 for the rest of the gears. The regular C5 (MN6) will act like a 3.42 the entire time. It is a fair difference at the 1/4 mile track, but that alone will probably not win or lose a race.

the Z06 beside having more power is also lighter.

with enough money you can do make any rwhp that you want.

If you can afford it go with 01+ - some 01s have oil consumption problems. If you cant afford it then you will be happy with a 98-00 hell you are driving a vette...

yeah exactly...
Im going to go with an 00' C5 with around 90k mileage. Its official.
Ill invest in wheels, tires, head and cam package (I dont know of a good vendor for this yet), and all bolt ons and possibly spray.

I basically want 450whp/450tq on pump gas

First....take a look at the Sticky concerning "Weights, Measurements...." A wealth of info concerning the C5 and individuals years.

Secondly.....if your budget can handle it, go with the 01. I would always try to get the best enhancements, improvements, etc to the generation you can afford. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

If you can afford the '01, go for it. More HP and torque, plus a number of options that were offered or simply not available on the '98 were standard on the '01. You can get the HUD, active handling, etc on the '01.

I'll just state the basics as other's have I'm sure....In 01' the HP Is 350 up from 345/Torque is 375*6spd/360*Automatic.Up from 350. Your torque will come on 400 rpm sooner with both the MN6 and the auto. It's only written as 400rpm sooner with the auto though. I read many reports that It goes for the 6spd as well~they just dont list It for some reason.
The wheels are different and a couple of pounds lighter. STD Heads up display, chrome exhaust tips, Improved shift linkage, more options
Ect Ect.... Best magazine #'s I've seen=1998*4.8 (0-60) *11.2 (0-100)
*13.2 (Qrt.ML) *@109mph...
2001*4.5(0-60) *10.8 (0-100) *13.0 (Qrt.ML) *@110mph...
*These were Motor Trends best #'s on both cars. Every person and car Is different so It all depends. This Is just to give you an Idea *Both tests were 6spds the 02 Auto= 4.9*(0-60) 13.3 (Qrt.ML) *@106mph oh and (0-100)=12.1sec Tested with optional 3.15 ratio I hope this helps, remember~these were just Mag. Tests~
