Tire question
Hi all,
Well I just dropped my car off at the dealer to have some work done and they mentioned to me about changing out the air for Nitrogen ($69) one time fee for the life of the tires. They said this is something new and they say it will prolong the life of the tire and prevent air from leaking out etc. Prevent internal dry rott etc.
Is this something new or a crock?
Reminds me of the old joke. Did you put the winter air in your tires or the spring air. I actually knew a guy in college I told this to and he literally flattened all his tires and expected them to re-inflate with the winter air. Ya not to bright that’s for sure.
Also who has the best prices for the run flats?
What are some alternatives?
I think I have a few more miles but by back right is looking the worse for wear. Geeee could that be the drive wheel kids

complete crock.
good news tho. The air you are breathing is already 78.8% Nitrogen.
If my car dealer told me this, I would be so insulted, that I just might assult the guy.
violence is bad tho Hmmmmk
cheers

Waste of $$. Sure NASCAR guys use it in their race tires, only because it has a more stable rate of expansion then plain air. Otherwise, it's a gimmick to get more bucks out of the customer.

gimic. But I wonder how many people get sucked in to getting it.
Some littel old lady comes in to have the oil changed and next thing you know she is driving aroun like a Nascar driver since she got the Nitrogen in the tires now

It's a old racers trick but won't make any difference for you.

I've had people tell me the same thing but they added to use nitrogen on ultra high performance tires. The guy was my brothers son in law who works at a tire place. I didn't have the heart to say what was said above, the air we breath is mostly nitrogen.

OK so on to part 2 of the question.
Where is the best place to get the run flats?
What is an alternative to them?
Oh ya I am in SFL so local shops would be best, unless someone online is offering free or reasonable shipping.

Ha ha ha. I am always amazed at the bs that salespeople try to promote. Especially $69!! I think you should use helium in all of your tires, it will reduce unsprung weight and make your vette go faster.

The place that installed my tires uses nitrogen with their "Road Force" balance, non gratas. I can't tell a difference, other than the tires maintain a steady pressure, cold or hot.

Wouldn't waste the money on the nitrogen. And best place I have found for tire prices is the Tire Rack. You can also check Discount Tire.

They got good reviews. What about Nitto? Trying to find pricing on them but Tirerack.com does not carry them.
