Default Damaged Body Pan

I recently returned from a 6000 mi road trip and a few days later, I noticed that the driver's side carpet was very wet. I remembered that I had hit "something" laying in the middle of the road. I stopped and checked under the car as best I could and saw no obvious damage, so I continued without incident. Today, I got under the car and discovered a small gash in the fiberglass pan about 4" in length. I am almost certain that this is the source of the wet carpet. My question is does anyone have any recommendations as to how to fix it without full replacement of the pan. I have an extended warranty, but do not think it would cover road damage. Thanks, Rick

Mine had something similar when I bought it. I cleaned the area well and filled it in with body seam sealer. I used a plastic bondo spreader to push it in and smooth it out. I don't know if it would have leaked or not, but I wanted it sealed just in case. I drive in the rainy NW and have not had any leakage so far.

Hi Rick -

The floorboards on a C5 are made up of balsa wood panels sheathed in a plastic sheet on both sides.

These panels are glued in place.

I would think this would be a relatively simple repair, but I have never heard of anyone needing it done.

Someone here will likely have a repair story - good luck with the repair.

I would use a good silicone caulk in the meantime to stop the leak until a more proper repair could be done.

best regards -
