Default Engine cleaner

What is a good engine cleaner?

Mine is not bad but after 19K miles it is starting to get a little dirty.

Thanks.

You may want to post this in the car care section. Lots of detailers there that can offer good advice. I myself try to detail the engine approx once a month or so. I find it's much easier to keep it clean than bring it back from being dirty.

I spay an old cloth with some Simple Green and wipe down most of the easy to reach areas. I'll use some Vinyl and Rubber conditioner on the hoses. Some areas I'll have to use a Qtip or toothbrush to get to.

Others will tell you it's ok to hose the engine down with water but my own opinion is to not use and instead just keep it clean with regular cleanings noted above. Good luck.

I myself thought about just this topic recently. And although in the past (not with the Vette) I have pressure washed boat,streetrod,lawnmower engines to clean them. I feel the Corvette has enough electrical/electronic problems without soaking the engine bay enhancing corosion in connectors and components. I'm going to go lurk around in the car care section and get some insight there.

Default Show clean

The process I've used on my engines for the past 12-15 years is ;

a) spray Simple Green on a cool/cold engine

b) let it sit for 5 minutes or so

c) spray engine with clean water from a hose under medium/low pressure

d) blow engine off with compressor

e) start engine and let run or take a short drive to totally dry engine off

this will keep your engine looking "show quality' for as long as you own the car. good luck, Ron
