My 02 coupe ran hot the other day. It ran up to around 245 three times and then back down to 198 before I could get it home. The fan was running and I did turn the heater on to try and relieve the engine of some heat. Also, I had noticed a small trickle of coolant on the garage floor coming from the front of the engine so I assumed the water pump was going out. I had the water pump replaced with a new one, new cooland installed but it is still running up to 245. What am I missing here? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Scott
I had a similar problem with my 98 convertible. It redlined at an idle at 0730 in the morning in the shade after having run for 10 mins! It was totally random as to when it would overheat. Everywhere I took it, I was told "It's a Vette...They run hot." But REDLINE??? Didn't seem right. I didn't have any coolant issues though. Consequently it was making the transmission act up. Apparently there is a "survival mode" which caused the stock Vette to fight it high performance alter ego. Long story short...I changed out the thermostat and the car is running 20 degrees cooler than it used to, no more transmission issues and no overheating!
