Default cut front bushings

i lowered my car and would like to drop it a little bit more. My question is what would I have to do to be able to cut the bushing? my saw is to big to fit in that area.

thanks

u have to unbolt the lower control arms from spindles and unbolt the leaf spring from the car and also unbolt the shocks so u can lower the control arms.... u have to pull the whole leaf spring from the car.

I jacked up the end of the spring and sawed the bushings off with a drywall saw. I disassembled nothing.

Even if you do it the hard way and drop the control arm to access the bushings, there is no reason whatsoever to remove the leaf spring.

Don't cut the front bushing you cant replace them you have to buy a whole spring assembly thanks GM you can buy this lowering kit for the C6 it is the same bolt size and thread pitch as the C5 I lowered my car and it wasn't as low as I wanted this option got me another 3/4 of an inch without cuting the bushings make sure you have a good alignment after

I wouldn't cut the C5 bushing. I bought C6 adjusters (they come 4 to a package, you only use 2 of them) and simply replace the C5 adjuster (thick bushing) with the C6 adjuster (same thread/thinner bushing) But you do have to drop the control arms and jack the spring that is not as bad as it sounds. You can see how this is done including pictures by using the search engine keyword: C5 lowering, and pan down through the threads untill you see one for adjuster bolt removal. I'd send you a link but I don't know how. This is the best way to get as low as you need to and yet still have the adjuster bolt to raise the car if needed.

I know what you mean. Before I received mine (and saw them in my hand) from the pics in the advertisments They looked like bolts with a large head. But that's not true. They have a thinner rubber head on them I would imagine as "chaffe gear" to protect the lower control arm that they contact.

Cutting the bushings potentially ruins the car for a subsequent purchaser since you have made the recovery very expensive. Currently, there is another post on the forum with a guy trying to figure out how to get a car he is purchasing with cut bushings restored to a more normal ride height.

I cut 2/3 off mine with a SawzAll. Took nothing apart. Don't see this affecting a future sale as one can always raise the front up even with cut bushings. Not as much as stock , but, still close.

Yes. That is my suggestion to you. Longer rear bolts (I bought 1/2" 13x 7" long but ran the locknut down all the way (shortest) on the given threads. Being the bolts didn't come in 1/2" sizes I would buy 6" bolts the next time. And I don't like the idea of removing the adjuster bolt and using NOTHING as alot of car owners do. It's something of a compromise to use the C6 adjuster that comes with the much thinner "bushing". I just think it a more "correct" action. With this C6 bolt you can reverse the lowering job in the future if you want to. I have allways tried to never do any mods that I couldn't return to stock (or reverse) if I wanted to in the future.

Used a coping saw on mine. Only cut the first ridge off which left lots of bushing rubber. There is lots of adjustment in th stock bolt if someone wants to jack it up again in future.
