Here's why people always advise to avoid the temptation of
those cheap salvage cars.
I cannot get the car to start on its own. I can get it to run if I spray “carb and choke cleaner” into the intake, but it will only run until the “carb cleaner” has burnt up. It seems to run fine for those few moments. I have spent thousands and do not have enough money to figure this out, so I must let it go.
For those that know what they are doing it is a good deal and for those who can not turn their own wrenches they should stay away from.
Obviously if he had a scan tool and few other tools like a fuel pressure gage he might figure out what is going on. The car gets spark but no fuel. Could also be theft devices triggered from accident, cutting off fuel.
"Vehicle Description" write-up states "standard clear New Jersey title" and conflicts with "Description" details stating "Title: Salvage". Some jibberish by seller in the "Questions from other members" section stating "I have had the car for a year and drove it about 20 times, +/-400 Miles. I dont know any of the cars history. My mechanic can't find anything wrong with the car, other then minor cosmetic things. I was told by ebay I had to list it as a salvage title, or other title, I chose salvage. I got a standard title, when I bought the car and still have a standard New Jersey title.
Anyone know if this, in fact, had a Salvage title based on the VIN# 1G1YY22G0V5107568 shown in the auction? '97 Auto w/ 62K miles "sold" for $13.3K. If it was clear, someone got a deal!

Thats all it is. The airbags have to be reset for the car to start, or can be bypassed with 2 50cent resistors from radio shack. So if anybody wants the car for cheap go ahead.
Somebody should have told him to come here before he gave up.
this guy got hosed!!! at least he is telling it how it is.
"could not get gas to the engine. why? because the dork stole the fuel pump also"
could you imagine the frustration the guy has had?? buying a car he figured needed a bunch of body work and finding all this out after the fact?
the theft unit shut fuel down. dont ya think??? maybe wrong key??
Wrongo Bucko. His Loss will be someone else's bigger loss. If a guy buys it for $8k put another $3k-$4k into it. $12K for a Thrashed and Trashed car that is only worth maybe $17.5K with a good title.

Salvage Titles...Just say NO
Excuse me, but by your own calculation of having a car for say $12K vs a street price of $17.5K is not a good deal, then what is a good deal ?
You would be hard pressed to go buy a complete vette and then turn around and resell it for $5.5K then you paid for it.

His loss will be someone else's gain.
Sorry to quote you again but you are right! I would jump on that deal in a minute if I didn't have two other projects going right now..Looks alot simpler than the last one I finished..Definitely not for everybody tho...

No problem. I am in the same boat as you, as I have three projects of my own that I am trying to clean up or I would have bought that one and converted into a track car.

Guess that depends on; You are from the Zaino crowd (what the hell is that stuff anyway)
You just love working on these great cars!!

So I think you are Wrongo Bucko.
You missed the part about $17.5 with a "GOOD" title. The Salvage Title Vehicle is worth about 60% of a Good Title Vehicle so this Vette once fixed is worth about $10.5K. Plus it could take considerably more the $4K to fix it.
