Just bought my vette two days ago, and the dealer was telling me that it cost like $200 bucks for an oil change....Theres a corvete dealer in austin and they charge $79.99 on special to change the oil...IM new at the vette thing but Im used to changing my own oil for 20 bucks....I know you have to run mobile 1 synthetic, but what else do you have to do that they would charge that much for?
Nothing...they just suck... They only thing different with the Vette from other cars is you need to get the whole car up in the air with the front slightly lower then the back and let it drain out for awhile due to the shape of the oil pan.
I've had my vette for about two years now. Changing the oil in the vette is very different than changing oil in other cars. The Mobil 1 lasts much longer. I don't change my oil every 3,000 miles, but use the on board computer to advise me when to change. So - you don't change this oil as often.
As to cost, I get it changed at the dealership here for $79.95 when it's done. They keep a record of all work done on my car, I plan to use that should I ever want to sell. You can do it yourself, as pointed out the vehicle must be lifted into the air and slightly tipped forward. Mobil 1 costs more than normal oil. You will pay around $35 for oil and then you need the filter - as I said I've never purchased it so I don't know firm prices or sale prices - but it is costly.
What we always need to be cognisant of is a Corvette is just a car. Corvette's requires maintenance just like any other automobile if you're planning to keep it trouble free.
Oil changes are simple and straight forward.
Keep the car level or slightly raised in the rear due to the flat oil pan.
Remove the oil plug, let the oil drain.
Replace the plug.
Fill with the recommended synthetic, 7.0 quarts.
Remove the oil filter and wipe the area
Replace with a new filter.
If you do it yourself the following approximate costs will apply;
Synthetic Oil - $6.25 / quart
Oil Filter - $12.00
Total - $55.75 plus tax if applicable
Depending on the oil you use and where you purchased it costs may vary.
buy your oil at Sam's club or Costco or Walmart.
Mobil 1 should cost you under $5/qt if you buy a six pack or a 5Qt jug.
You will need 7 qts.
For a filter use either

$200 is . My dealer will change the oil and filter (using Mobil 1 and an AC filter) for $56. I've heard of prices in the $75 range though. Get a set of ramps and do it yourself for about $45.
My dealer charged me $10 to change the oil and filter when I supplied the oil and filter. Get the Mobil 1 at Walmart in the 5 quart jug...etc. not very expensive.
Now I change it myself and save the $10. (But I had to buy ramps, jack, etc...but they are durable garage purchases).
It's easy to do as well. Get the K&N oil filter with the built on 1" nut which makes changing the filter a snap too.

No, changing the oil in a Corvette is exactly the same as any other car and 3000 mile oil changes have been a thing of the past for over 20 years now.

Just remember that it takes 6.5 quarts with the filter. As the others told you - it's no more of a big deal than it would be with a Cavalier. I only use Mobil 1 5W-30 and Delco UPF44 filters, and I follow the DIC oil life monitor.
When you buy oil - make sure it says right on the bottle that the oil meets or exceeds GM4718M, which is the Corvette standard.
By all means shop around if you don't want to do it yourself. My dealer charges 60.00 and from time to time, he'll run a special and do it even lower than that. 200.00 is out of line.

I take mine to the Chevy dealer's quick change shop and it's done for about $65. I just drive over the pit and the car sits level. They handle the car with care.

Actually you don't have to use Mobil 1. The actual requirement is for an oil meeting GM Standard 4718M. Many synthetics meet that requirement. To the best of my knowledge, no regular oil does though, so pay attention to the labeling on the bottle when you buy your oil.
And as others have said, your dealer would be raping you to charge $200 for an oil change. A complete oil and filter change using AMSOIL oil and filter is on the order of $65 at retail prices, or about 25% less than that at Preferred Customer program pricing. Mobil 1 is slightly less than that at Walmart and filters vary widely from about $2 to $15. Essentially the dealer is making about $140 on you at those prices.

Never heard of the Stealership Corvette tax? Seriously though, there is nothing extra they do that would cost more than any other vehicle. This is one reason I NEVER use a dealership for oil changes.
Other than the fact that Mobil 1 is a synthetic oil and therefore a little more expensive than average there's no reason for an oil change to cost more than any other car.
