H/C Guys.. Help Me
A little while back I talked to Ikester (Ike) a forum member about his exhaust and H/C setup. He has the AFR Head Package and a mild cam (.581.588@114). He also has LTs, Cats, and the Magnum Series Plus Catback.
I want to do a setup like him, since I am in college this is going to be spread over about 3 years, but I am starting with the exhaust first, and the catback will be coming very soon after christmas this year.
The reason why I posted this is because since I am going to be doing the catback soon, I want to know how much the exhaust affects the way the H/C package sounds. If you think of a very quite setup and a very LOUD setup, I want right in the middle. I definitely want to be able to hear the cam, but I don't want the H/C with the exhaust combo to be overwhelmingly loud. I'm kind of looking for the 70's Chevelle type sound, like my next door neighbors, very aggressive, but not CRAZY loud.
All said and done I am most likey going to go with the AFR Street Heads and probably a custom grind cam, the biggest/most aggressive I can go with it still being streetable. I will have the supporting intake mods as well.
I will also be doing a full exhaust, LT's 3 inch collector, Hi-flows, 3 inch crossover and a catback. This is my question. Since I will be doing the exhaust first, catback very soon... What are some of your suggestions for my exhaust, catback for now, so that I can achieve that 70's Chevelle type sound with the exhaust and the H/C package in the end, all said and done? Is the Magnum Series Plus Catback a good way to go to achieve that sound?
What should I be looking at?
PS - If some of you guys have a real aggressive H/C package, post some clips if you have them! And let me know what type of exhaust setup you're running too.

My Mustang has an o/r X and I like the sound, but it is just a whole other noise level, which I don't exactly want on the Vette, it is too high pitched, and I want something much deeper for the Vette. Plus we ran into problems with emissions testing.
Here is the MTI X1 cam which is pretty big from what I understand... Any idea of what kind of exhaust this guy might be running? Sounds about what I am looking for sound wise...

I definitely do not want to put loudmouths on the car. I have them on the mustang, and it is going to be way too loud, especially if I go with a custom grinds bigger than the MTI X1, which is likely.
I should probably be going with some type of chambered muffler? Or do you think that would supress the sound too much?
Although I would like it to sound somewhat close to that at the idle... Just supress the cam a little more at WOT, to give it a big block sound instead of the loudmouth "opening up to the heavens, raspy" sound. And obviously in this guys case, the loudmouths are NOT supressing the sound at WOT, they are deafening intensifying it.

Otherwise I am going to have a really hard time figuring this out. I hate playing around with this stuff, and I don't have room for mistakes

Also, can you guys give me an idea, the MTI X1 cam is 230/227, and it is considered a very aggressive, streetable cam. What setup (2xx,2xx) starts to become unstreetable? For instance, MTI also sells the S1 which is 244/244, which I am guessing is FAR from streetable...? But what setup is the most aggressive I would be able to go while still be streetable? Give it to me in #'s (2xx , 2xx ?)

For instance, this guy revs it once or twice while on the dyno. It sounds like he is running straight pipes, that is TOO loud for me, but I want something that is going to give me A LITTLE of that type of aggressive "ripping" sound....
