Default Plugs and Wires!!

Just recently bought my vette has 78000 on it, and I dont know to much of the maintence history on it. Im sure the oil has been changed, but as far as everything else I don't know. So I figured I would start with the basics....plugs and wires....What do yall recommend? Also what else would I need to look at changing soon.?

Congratulations and welcome.

I went with the MSD red wire set, P/N: 32819 and the NGK TR55 plugs.

Perhaps an inspection by a trusted friend / mechanic that knows the Corvette might be in order.

Best of luck with your new found fun and don't forget to wave.

Sorry -

I ordered the MSD wires from Autozone.
(Red P/N: 32819, Black P/N: 32819 at about $75.00??)
You can get them from Jegs for about $60.00

I think I bought the plugs from either Advance Auto or O'Reilly.
(P/N: 3951 at about $1.50 each)

For the plugs, NGK TR-55s are a good choice.

For plugs some folks like the NGK's, a lot also like the stock AC Delco's.

If I were you, unless you saw them change the oil/ filter or have a receipt, I'd change it again.

I'd also change every other fluid and filter on the car. Split the old trans filter and examine, or have someone do that, if it's an A4. Inspect all belts and hoses. Check the brake pads/ rotors. Park it on a clean concrete slab for a day and see if anything leaks. Check the DIC for codes. Pull the battery and check for corrosion underneath it. (If you see some, search here and read up on what that means.) All of that won't cost that much, and you then have all your service intervals lined up to a single mileage and date. You will also get a good general idea of how the car is doing, especially if you do the work yourself. Oh, and clean your udders. No kidding, your car has udders.

More importantly, post any other questions here to get help from a great bunch of folks.

Most importantly, welcome to the forum!

Last time I was on the dyno, they said my car was detonating pretty bad, and during spirited driving I can actually feel the power surging... Does that mean I need a new set of plugs/wires?

Check your pms.. as for the detonating.. possibly. Depends on your mods, the type and gap and a few other things. Whats your setup? Could have been the gas, etc...

Thanks for you help! As far as performance mods, it's a bone stock Z06 with 56k miles on it. I ONLY use 93 octane from Chevron.

Default Plugs

Alright so that combo of plug and wire seems like what I'll go with, Any body else have any input? I've heard that the a/c delco iridium plug's are the best. There are so many choices and I don't know which is the best, I don't race this car and the only future mods are exhaust and a cold air intake.....

I am currently running the MSD 8.5 SC wires. I am running the ACDELCO irdiums and will probably never use anything else. The NGKs are okay, but I hate the screw in tops.

If you are running a NA car, the iridiums will be fine and they will last 100,000 miles.

I use MSD 8.5mm wires and NGK TR55iX (irridium) plugs. The older style NGK plugs had the screw on tops - new ones do not.

It's all personal preference. & enjoy your car!

Hey Micah

Isn't that the Missouri in the background? Your sig says SC, thought the Mighty Mo was at Pearl Harbor.

Napa had them here. They were $8.00 each so they are a bit spendy but I really like them.

I was stationed out there and transferred last November. Had to get that picture with the MIGHTY MO as the back ground.
