A buddy of mine (knows nothing about cars but knows I'm into Vettes) just told me about something he found for sale. It's descibed as a manila folder with a sticker on the cover reading "C5 Limited Access," a date from 1997 and sigs of various GM officials. Said to contain glossy photos and tech data from the car's development.
Does anyone know anything about this? I'm thinking its either a scam or some clever marketing from around the time of the C5 release. The car had already been out in 97, so why would there be "top secret" docs still running around then?
If it's the real Mc Coy, It's sure is interesting to ME!
That's why I'm asking around here. I spoke ot the guy who has it briefly, and he doesn;t seem to know much about it, either. He's not asking much $, so maybe I'll give it a shot just in case its the real deal. Something just seems fishy about this, and more than the $, I hate getting scammed.
Hmm... there was an article in Autoweek last week about a guy bidding on a folder of Delorean papers. Could this be something similar (was there some paperwork garage sale at GM?!?), or could your buddy have seen this and is yanking your chain? Here's a link to the article:
I do recall a fancy ad I saw in a magazine, looked like a manilla folder with about 5 or 6 pages in it. had a bunch of pics and of course all the usual tech data on the "new and impoved" corvette. even some ooh and ahhh type info about its developement etc etc. very fancy ad for sure but i wouldnt guess it to be worth a lot. but then again, maybe he has something diff. either way if its not much $$$ it could make a nice addition to a collection. Let us know what you find out and post pics if you can get some.
I remember seeing this -- as an insert in Car & Driver or Road & Track. It was advertising with a perforated edge so you could tear out the "manilla folder" (card stock) with I think a red sticker keeping it closed. It then had photos, specs, tech drawings as well inside.
Neat little promo, nothing in it was actually "secret"
^^ edit: black sticker I guess

I've got one too - says C5 Limited Access until Jan 7, 1997. GM sent this out to get current owners of Corvettes to step up to the C5 model. I also got a follow on mailing that had a cassette tape in it which gave details of the C5. Just another couple of pieces of stuff for my Corvette merchandise collection.
Mine does not have any perferation marks. IT IS an advertisement thing though. On the inside back it says it is for the 97 model and I guess it was for promotional purposes.
But does it still have any value?

you'd be better off putting your money in a set of front end foglight screens....those suckers have skyrocketed in price over the years...the early sets would go for around $50; now they are close to $200!!!
Or, a front end emblem..originally they were $13...now they are well over $50! I am saving mine in original GM wrapper til the day I can get $100 for it...
