Default C6 Z06 Shifter question

My g/f is contemplating buying me a C6 Z06 shifter for christmas, she wound up having to tell me what she was going to get me because she doesnt know how to go about buying it or what all parts are needed and when she called around to the local dealerships they told her it wouldnt fit in the C5. First question I have to ask from those who have put this shifter in their C5 is, was it worth it, is it something that made the car more enjoyable to drive? Will this shifter bolt directly in any year C5, I have an 02 if it makes a difference. Also, which vendor has the best price?

Thanks for any info,
--Chris

It made a huge difference. Finding fifth gear with the original shifter was an exercise in frustration. The C6 shifter is smoother and much more accurate. I had A&A Corvette do the install. They also provided the parts. I would highly recommend that you get the Vette Essentials shift boot that is specifically designed for a C5 with the C6 shifter.

Wait till 12/14 Gene will be back! Order it thru him and save a ton of money!

I have this shifter with the C6Z06 base and its very close to being perfect! I have tried Hurst, B&M and 3 custom home made shifters before finally settling for this.

Its got about 35% shorter throw then normal C6 shifter and cost cheaper than C6 shifter too!

Good luck

c6zo6 shifter great upgrade you'll absolutely love it. Install very easy takes less than 1/2 hour to install. I bought mine used with 1200 miles on it from a c6 forum member for like $125 shipped.

I love mine. You will need the shifter, **** and **** set screw. Here is a pic of the shifters side by side. The C6 is on the right hand side.

Here's another pic of the shifter in the car. I have since trimmed off the top of the shift boot and zip tied it to the bottom of the C6 ****. It looks much better. Zip tie can not be seen. I need to take a picture of the results.

I have the C6 shift, and really enjoy it much better than the C5 shift.

I just pulled a BPP, and replaced it with the C6ZO6 shifter, and I'm pleased with the results. A longer throw, but much less notchy. As previously mentioned, you have to get a custom boot, or modify your stocker to fit.

Do it for sure, and get it from Gene. Don't forget to get the vette essentials boot too.

I have an '02 like everyone else says a) shifter is smother, b) easy installation (search the archives for install instructions, the hardest part is getting the old **** off of the shifter) c) the **** is much more comfortable in the hand then the squared off stock **** and d) looks cooler then stock ****.

I bought mine from Gene, it came with the shifter and all the mechanics underneath it. A simple few bolt installation with no worries. Honestly, I can't say the shifting movement feels much different than it did to begin with.

The position of the stick, shorter height, the size of the ****, make a world of difference. That alone makes me happy for the purchase.

Go for it!

The shifter's revised angle makes it much more comfortable when shifting IMO. And, it seems to be a smoother shifting piece.
