Have any of you Z owner gear heads pulled apart any o4 Z heads to find springs with red/orange markings on the spring instead of the yellow? I had a cam installed and checked my springs returned and they have an orange/red marking instead of the yellow. Just wondering if GM has changed the color they are using on the Zo6 valave springs?
I broke a valve spring in my 02 a month ago. I found out that 02 & 03 have yellow springs but I am not sure about 04. I think they may be different. I am sure someone on this forum will know or the Z06vette forum will know.
Thanks for your reply, I'm just trying to see if GM did make the change or were my springs swapped out on me.
Mike
What would I have the need to swap your springs for something else? Isn't this getting a lil crazy? Those are the springs that came off your car Mike, jesus! Maybe just pick up the phone and call? If it makes you sleep better at night I can give you a set of yellow ones, as we have some of those also.

They changed the springs in late 03, I had two of the yellow ones break at idle.. I believe the new ones are also used in the ls2 motor..
I have an 2002, already had to replace the valve springs last year at 60K miles.
went with 918's
Did you do hardened pushrods with the 918's, do you have to?
Did your motor drop a valve or did this happen at idle and you were ok?
How about you, RedRocket, is your motor ok or did it drop a valve?
Just to add to the mix, I read of a 2001 Z06 with a new motor from GM after the original was destroyed (dropped a valve) due to a bad spring at 50,000 miles. That is the first 2001 I have heard about.
Sorry for the late reply on this!
I did not hurt the motor. As soon as the spring broke and it started running bad I shut it off. I towed it to the nearest dealership and had it fixed then went directly my oil changer and changed the oil.
I did find however that the dealership scratched both fenders while working on it. Cost me $100 to get the fenders professionaly rubbed out. I won't be going back their again!
