Yeah, it's a fleur-de-lis, literaly translated as "lily flower". It is a stylized lily, also used in heraldry. There is a site somewhere that talks about the logo and Cheverolets use of it. Can't remember where it is.
Giving the French too much credit on this one, the orgin of the Corvette name was from a class of warship in the British Navy.
Actually, the French are due the credit.
"The British Navy began using small ships in the 1650s, which were referred to as sloops. The first reference to a corvette was with the French Navy in the 1670s."

Holy cow, by dawn we'll have traced this back to the Vikings or the guy who hollowed out the first log. Then again, he could have been French who knows.

Actually, hollowed out logs are called Dugouts and they date back to the Stone Age. Found in what is now known as Germany. Not France.
"Dugouts are the oldest boats archaeologists have found. In Germany they are called Einbaum (English translation: One tree). Einbaum dug-out boat finds in Germany date back to the Stone Age. Along with bark and hide canoes, these dugout boats were used by Native Americans. This is probably because they are made of massive pieces of wood, which tend to preserve better than, e.g., bark canoes."
Regardless, he asked about the symbols as part of the logo, not the name corvette...however, wikipedia shows the word corvette was taken from the french "corvair" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corvette
Of course, most people know that wikipedia can be edited by anyone so that stuff may not be 100% correct but i figure since anyone can edit it, there are enough people out there that know the truth so its probably pretty decent info...
