I was talking to a local "tuner" in regards to some mods that I want to do and he claims he can get me 30 hp from this edit alone. Is this just hot air coming out of his mouth or is it something that's possible? Appreciate any feed back from you folks that had this edit done.
It all depends on what mods you have installed (if any) and what the current air/fuel ratios look like for the car. Some people see gains from a tune alone with no mods (but 30 HP is pretty optimistic), and others will see no gain at all.
After the mods in my sig. I was running close to 10% lean on the top end, so the mixture had to be richened up - potentially causing me to lose some HP but keeping me in the safe and reliable range for air/fuel ratios.
If you are planning to do mods wait until they are done to perform the tune. If you tune now you are just wasting time and money cause you will have to tune again after your mods are installed to get the full gain.
I have currently got a hurricane induction system and also have bullets on the car and at the last dyno, I was at 370 rwhp. Is it wise to go ahead with the tune as I don't intend to add any more mods to the car?
