Default ABS/Traction control service warnings

I went to test drive a 01 vert today after 10mins of driving the car I went to park it and got ABS/Traction service readings. Should I walk away from this car?
Thanks

In my case, it was my after-market stainless-steel brake lines. One of them was not grounded...easy fix. However, I have read a few posts about this problem. I am sure others will share their experience with you.

Sounds like a very good negotiation tool to me. Pull the codes. It may be very minor, but the dealer may not know it. Tell him to repair the problem first, or knock a couple grand off the price.

This is a very common problem that has 3 or 4 different answers ranging in price from free all the way upto 2000 dollars.

Bill Curlee has many good posts on this problem.

1. the first potential problem is a bad male/female connection between the main wiring harness and the wheel speed sensor.

2. the next one up is a bad sensor/hub

3. third is a bad main wiring harness

4. last and most expensive is a bad ebcm.

Any and all of these have been known to set ABS/TC codes...

you really need to know what the codes are to diagnose this better...this can be done by holding down the #4 button and hitting the #1 button 3 times within 10 sec while holding #4. it should then scroll through the codes.

I actually have a speed sensor code that pops up when i hit a big bump with the front right wheel. this leads me to believe its a bad connection that wiggles when i hit the bump. unfortunately, i havent had time to look at it and get that connectionback to 100%

so to answer your question you might want to run if its a bad ebcm if its just a bad connection not so much.

Thanks the car was on Ebay they were willing to pull it off if I was interested but I decided to wait. They told me they have not always had the best of luck with Ebay sales (as in people bidding on things and not coming to pick up cars ect.) so i told them to get back to me if this happens on this car. I also told them without having someone I trust checking out the car I was going to pass. Most I would pay is $18,500 I'm sure of the ebay thing blows up they'll jump at that.

When that warning is lit, It's also NOT working, and by reseting it still maynot be working. (see owners manual) My EBCM fix was $2800.00 under ex. warr. $50 deductable

This is true to some extent as well...i think it definitely depends on the problem area. I know when i get that crazy light i can simply reset it and the light goes away, the code stays away and I am pretty sure I still have traction control working. Its just that the connection is lost for a second when the bump is hit and then reconnects. By losing the connection for even the slightest amount of time, the codes are set. However, i have a 97 where its only TC no AH so this could be different depending on the car and the systems it uses...but im pretty sure after resetting it, the TC is re-enabled...next time i get the code, ill do a big burnout () and see if it still works....if shes on me then i guess i know my answer...

A lot of times the problems lie in the "grounding system"
I had the same problem a couple of years back and ended up cleaning up and reconnecting all of the grounds and have had one incident since then (right front wheel loose connector and damp weather.
Go to this thread under Tech. Bill documented his procedures for clearing up problems Good Luck

I guess I was referring to ABS only, the mechanic suggested not driving it untill problem was fixed. The '00 owners manual also states, "It may or maynot be working"

Run away! Once these problems start, they might never stop. Sometimes it's a simple fix, but sometimes the fixes keep piling up and you end up with one big never-ending headache (that's what I'm dealing with on my '02 coupe).
