My '99 driver's side headlight motor is making loud whirring sounds as it opens up and closes. Dealer says I need a $600 part plus $200 labor for the complete kit. Motor not sold separately. I can find motor for $135 on internet. Do I need the whole kit or just the motor?

For $80 both motors will be good for a long time if not the life of the car.
Also, although it's a bit of a challenge you don't need to remove the entire light assembly to remove the motor and replace the gear. That's the hardest part - one it's out changing the gear is a 10 minute job.
