Default tire question

What would be a good choice of tires for the street and a few auto cross events, maybee a trip to VIR.Should I stay with the stock tire sizes 265-40-17 and 295-35-18 or upgrade?I've seen people put 275s in the front and 305s or 315s in the back?

I'm using Nitto NT01s 275 in front and 315 in back on my stock Z rims. Great tires for the track and the street if you don't drive in the rain. Go to www.nittotire.com and check them out.

Kumho MXs. Capable at an autocross (plus, they can handle the heat better than the other autocross-prime street tires) and probably one your best bets for a track-day street tire too. Cheaper than most too.

I have the Nitto 555R2 on my Z06. 295 in fromt, 305 in back on stock rims. Excellent tire! I'm getting ready to put another set on the rear. The only problem I've encountered is that they wear out quickly - not much tread depth to begin with, and a soft compound. If you want a high milage tire, this tire isn't for you, but if you want something that sticks, this is it. They do have to be warmed up a bit for maximum performance though.
Hope this helps
Bill

Kumho would be a good choice. I run V710s and V700s on the track and both are good tires and cheaper than some of my other choices. For an all around tire though I would go with the MX.

Other good choices are the Toyo RA1s, Yoko Advan Series, GY Eagle F1 Supercar, Nitto 555RII and the MPSC.

On the street I run Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. If you have a few extra $$$ laying around I would suggest these. I used them on the track to see how they compare to the V710s and they were pretty close in performance.

I run 17in 295F/315R on the track and 18in 295F/315R on the street. 18in tires look great under the vette.

Are these tires a noticable improvment over the stock goodyear s/c tires?I was looking at the nitto NT01s.I cant seem to find 295s for the front. Are they 295/40/17 or 295/30/17 or 295/35/17s.

Thanks for the feedback

How long do the Kumho MX's last? I have read some reviews and people seem to like them in the dry and wet.

My F1 Supercars need to be replaced at 20K miles.
