My car came with a CD changer, but if I had to do it from scratch I would buy an MP3 player and buy the components to integrate it with the factory stereo. Instead of 10 cd's you could have hundreds.
I used to have a 6-disc changer in the trunk of a former dd and after having problems with discs sticking in the changer or the cartridge refusing to eject, I would never have another disc changer. I have gone with an 8gb iPod nano wired directly into the stock HU. Works great and have so much more music to listen to than would be available on ANY disc changer. Definitely a much better way to go in my opinion!

In a good sound system, mp3's don't sound quite as good as CDs. However, you can close the quality gap by using a "LAME" mp3 encoder when doing your conversions. One of the best ones, the dBpowerAMP converter can be downloaded for $15. It truly makes a difference if you are playing your mp3's through a good player. I recommend the Cowon iaudio players for great sound and audio controls. They smoke iPods in terms of the smoothness and musicality of sound. You will want to hardwire your mp3 player to your car's sound system and avoid the FM modulators. I know there are some good threads that address how to do this in the audio/electronics forum. Good luck.
Bought my '04 CE Coupe, and the original owner had removed the CD Changer from the rear area.
Found a replacement ( stock,on this forum ) installed it myself, and am very happy with the performance.

I agree, MP3s don't sound as good as CDs, if those MP3s are at the typical 128 kbps bitrate. So what I do is I rip my CDs, not at 128 kbps but at 320 kbps AAC. By doing this, I can't tell the difference between a song played from a CD versus that same song played from my iPod, at least in the vette. And I can get over 50 hours of music on my 8gb nano, even at 320 kbps. I'd like to see ANY disc changer hold that much music.
