Default Question about the 02' Z06....

I'm thinking about replacing my 99 FRC with a 02' Z..... I felt the 01' wasn't enough of a difference rwhp wise to warrent a jump to it........Now I've seen a few post with the dyno results in the 355-360rwhp range for the 02'. My question is this...
Is it worth me shelling out my mint FRC + nearly$20k for 30rwhp more and shorter gearing? I know there is more to the car then the power, but thats what comes to mind right off. I know with simple mods it will make nearly 380rwhp and that would rock!!!!!! But as far as right now.... I could spend $5k on my FRC now and have 400+rwhp...... anyway is the 02' worth it??

Only you can make up your mind. Go take a test drive in a Z06. Find a club member who will take you out - then decide. Everyone that has gone out with me or driven one of my Z06's went nuts and were very impressed.

Drive one, then you will start to drool, lose sleep, agonize over the decision.

We don't want to be the only ones having gone through this experience. You may as well sufer also.

Frank,
I have a 2000 coupe, I am looking to get an 02 or 03 Z06 as well.

What prices have you found on 02s in South Florida and what would you be willing to pay for one?

The only time you will see any difference between the `01 and `02 in the HP duel is above 4000 rpms. If you drive it in that range all the time then you should be getting the `02 if the 20 more HP is what you need. Otherwise, you will not notice any difference in the car.

I havent been agressive with the dealers yet. I hinted I was interested to my salesman that sold me my 99...... he said "things are slow and we'll make you a hell of a deal".... for what it's worth I don't know what that means, but it would take some dealing to get me in one right now. I did get a awesome deal on my 99 from him back then!! I paid $36.4k on a $40.8k MSRP.... It would take that kind of deal to put me in any car right now.

I would keep your ride for now.

The 02's are soon going to be real hard to unload with the C6 just around the corner.

One ride you don't want to miss will be the C6 Z06.

C5 Frank, I was in a similar position a while back, driving a 2000 hardtop and reading about the new 02 Z06 and the upgrades. long story short, I ordered one through karl and I'm still smiling. The Z is everything I hoped for and MORE!!!! Right now we are in a Buyers Market and good deals are to be found on 01 Z06's. IMHO, the prices on 02 Z's will be discounted more as we get closer to the 03. You owe it to yourself to go drive the 02 ;) You will have much less indecision after you drive it. :yesnod: all the best, :seeya

They aren't going to come out with the Z06 model for the C6 for quite a while, right? I figured the first year would be coupe only, then vert, THEN Z06 (in 2006 or so). Don't you think that's pretty realistic?

I agree Ryan. I doubt we'll see a C6 Z06 until 2005, especially with whats been going on now in World events. If this is true, 4 Years is a long time to wait.

I have a Perfect 92 convert, 30k miles, never in snow or hardly rain, and I asked myself the same question: Is it worth my perfect, low mile 92 convert, AND $25,000 to get a new one? NOPE, not untill the Z06!!!!! One drive of a used one a couple of months back and I was HOOKED. Accelerates like a crotch rocket, awesome, so if you want to know the answer, GO DRIVE ONE.

PS 1 got smart, and lucky,,,traded the Yukon instead, still got the convert.
PS 2 Dyno doesn't tell the whole story, my 92 dynos at 320 hp in 104 degree heat, and this Z06 kicks its tail, trans gearing and weight don't show on the dyno, broad band torque isn't visible on a peak hp number either.

C5 Frank,
I have to wonder how BOBSZ06 knows so much about the difference (or lack of) between a 01 and 02 Z06. I traded a 01 Z06 for a 02 so may have a little credibility on the issue. He's right about not much difference in performance until you get around 4K RPM but I've heard that point made when comparing a regular C5 to the Z. Both the 01 and 02 LS6 really come on hard above 4000 but the 02 is noticably stronger. But there's more to a 02 than 20 horsepower. The handling on the 02 is significantly better. The shock valving changes eliminated a lot of the wheel hop problems and the back end sticks much better when you push it hard in the turns. For the guys that like the 1/4 mile stuff minimizing the wheel hop problem is significant.
