Default Brake Rotor Replacement

My 2004 Coupe will need new pads and rotors eventually. I plan to get slotted/cross-drilled rotors and ceramic pads. I read in the Corvette shop manual that the rotors should be matchmarked to the original postion on the hub before removal. The manual does not explain further. My question is: Matchmarked where on the hub? Has anyone done this surgery on their Vette? Thanks in advance for any good advice!

I just replaced my factory rotors with the GM cross-drilled and slotted rotors and didn't do what you are talking about. I just took the caliper off and moved it out of the way (leave the brake line attached), removed the caliper bracket, pull the rotor off, put the new one on, put the caliper bracket back on, torque the bolts to spec, put the caliper back on with new pads, torque the caliper bolts to spec, bled the brakes and that was it. It took about 3 hours but I think I could do it much faster now. Hope this helps you out. Good luck.

Don't know anything about what you are asking but I do have a web site showing steps to remove and install rotor's:

Good luck!

I have seen that in my service manual also. They are matched with the hub to eliminate rotor run-out, but I have never known anyone to have any problem with run-out when installing new rotors.

That's what the dealer did to mine when they installed my aftermarket rotors. Simple swap out was all they did and no problems.

I believe that is only if you are putting the previous rotors (the used ones) back on the car so they are matched to their previous position in relation to the hub. Isn't applicable if you are putting new rotors on.

Rikko: Great article and photos! What you describe is percisely what I intend to do! I have about a week off and intend to paint my calipers. When time comes to replace pads and rotors I intend to paint the brackets. Thanks again, and keep smoking those Mustangs!

maybe so, but I change my rotors all the time from Track back to street and never mark either set. I never had a problem.
