Anyone get a flat after swapping out the run flats? I was thinking about swapping mine out for a set of Pilot Sports and buying a can of that tire inflator (flat fix). How did things work out or did you need to call a flat bed? The run flats are noisy, but I'd hate to get stranded on a long trip when the can of "tire" fix didn't work.

I just removed my "run-flats" and opted for Pilot Sport PS2's...what a difference. It feels like I bought a new car. I now agree with all of those other non-fans of the run flat. They are only good for one thing, running withour air. I struggled with the thought of a flat and no spare, but decided to purchase the small air compressor that fits in the rear compartment of a C5 nicely. I also went to Pep Boys and bought a tire plug kit and will fix a small hole myself before calling for the "roll-back". In my opionion, the handling and the ride are worth the sacrifice of the non-run-flat tires.
I just switched to not runflat tires and the difference is night and day. The only bad thing is now I hear all the other noises the car makes. I am off today to get a road repair kit together. Jack, pump, plug kit etc etc.
I purchased new GY EMT's for my car in March of this year. Then a few months later I decided to upgrade my wheels. I purchased a set of OEM z06 wheels and needed new rubber. I did all the research (okay, I went to Tire Rack's website) and decided on Firestone Wide Ovals which are non EMT. I compared all the major brands and Firestone was close in several of the tests. The deciding factor was price. I am very glad I went with non EMT's. The ride is awesome!! I bought the Conti Tire Repair Kit as well. There are those on the forum that will disagree with my decision for going with non EMT and especially the Firestone brand but I would encourage anyone to look at these tires. BTW - I am in no way affiliated with the Bridgestone/Firestone Corp!!
Merry Christmas!!!

Reason: Left something out
Go for Pilot Sport A/S ZPs (Zero Pressure ie. run flats) I did and the ride is GREAT compared to Goodyear EMTs. Plus the ZPs are warranted for road hazard by MICHELIN and if you get a road hazard defect within 2 years and 50% tread life Michelin will give you a new tire FREE with cost to mount and balance included. The extra $20 bucks you spend fort ZPs is WORTH IT... Bought mine at Discounttiredirect whch is cheaper than Tirerack cause they inclued FREE UPS groound shipping.
Go for it. BIGHANK

I've been running Goodyear non-runflats for about 25,000 miles now. I can't remember the last time I've had a flat on any of my vehicles! I have a jack, compresor, plug kit, torque wrench and four way. You know if you opt for this you should at least try jacking the car and removing a wheel at least once. I would advise jacking and removing a wheel if you ever need to plug a puncture as opposed to rolling around on the ground trying to fix the tire on the car.

As long as you are properly prepared (plug kit, compressor, jack, etc), going with non-runflats is a good move. Might want to have emergency road service and a cell phone too.

Can these tires be plugged like the GY.tire? And what is the rating such as how far can you drive on a flat? I need new tires in March, but only runflats; I would like less noise though.

I've only had my car a month, but all I can tell you is in my opinion is I believe they are DANGEROUS when they are in the last 25% of thread life. I hit a tire rut on I-81 that jolted and twisted my car into the other lane. I just bought the car and was driving it 500 miles to home. I was saying WTF, THIS CAR IS SCARY! My wife was behind me and asked me what was wrong, I didn't know. Air pressure was good in all four, etc. I talked to a buddy who had them installed on his HP Audi new, he took them off in 6 months. I sometimes wonder if this unpredictable side-skip hopping is the real cause behind some of the wrecks I read around here blamed on the EBCM. The sensation reminded me of my Mustang hard in a corner with the suspension loaded hitting a bump then skipping sideways. (I cured that with a panhard bar) But my 'Vette would do it straight ahead. Anyrate, no run flats, BFG G-forces, the car is rock-steady (even on rough roads) and feels like the supercar I was expecting to drive. In my opinion, run-flats compromise handling at the expense of mobility. If I lived anywhere that had any kind of rough road conditions, I wouldn't use them. I don't think the technology has been perfected enough, I'll put together a tire repair setup too. I would rather waste a tire/rim than wreck me and the car!

Read posts 12 and 13 and that's about all you need. I can't remember the last time I saw a Corvette along side the road with a flat tire. I keep jacking pucks, the Z06 compressor and a tire plug kit in my car at all times. Everybody has a cell phone. I have emergency road towing. A few friend's phone numbers, one of whom has a flat bed towing truck. I have a spare set of wheels and tires in my garage, "Honey, throw one in the 4x4 and bring it on over." If it happens or is going to happen, be prepared. All I know is when the wife's run-craps need replacing on her V, they're gone too.

Reason: Clarity
Go online at Discounttiredirect and see if they come in 19 inch sizes. I was looking for standard 17 and 18 inch ones and they certainly have them. I dont remember if the Michelins are rated at 50 or 200 miles to run flat but I WOULD NOT TRY TO SEE HOW FAR I COULD GET WITH THEM WITH NO AIR. You WILL eventually RUIN the TIRE by running on it flat. I would go only as far as I coould to get the car safely off an interstate highway or the like. My insurance co will tow my car to a place where I can get it worked on. Keeping the "hocky pucks" in the trunk well insures I dont get the rocker panels wrecked if I have to jack it up. BIGHANK

Well, I did something stupid that cost me $300.00 after switching from R/Fs to regular tires.
I drove through one of those drive through car washes and broke the valve stem end of one of my air sensors. (The car wash had some pipe type wheel guides) This cost me a tow, temporary valve stem repair, new sensor and a trip to the dealer to calibrate. I will be putting run flats back on the car in a couple of months and no more drive through car washes.

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
