I’m thinking about powder coating my OEM Z06 Gray wheels black chrome. Is there anyone out there who has done this and how were the results? Pics would be great.
No, it is a powder coating process. $200.00 per wheel at www.bjschromeandcustom.com. They do core swaps, so your looking somewhere around $1k with shipping both ways.
It is a great look, but the durability factor made me take a different direction.
I have been kicking around having this done to my 505A's. I would really like to see them in person first, I think it would look pretty tight though. They would look great on your black car!!
I've seen this "black chrome" finish from 3 different companies and only one was close to an oem finish without blemishes. It's a three step process after the wheels have been stripped, From what I'm told it's not an easy process and not everybody is meticulous enough to get it "oem" quality.

black chromed my 505A's straight from CCW, they are still in awesome condition, best for you to see in person tho, there will be some streaks after time. Put mine on in may of last year and they are still looking good.

You are talking about two different processes. Simply put:
Chroming is adding a thin layer of METAL to your wheel.
Powder-coating is adding a thin layer of PLASTIC to your wheel.
Either process can give you a very reflective or dull or anywhere inbetween surface. Both processes can give you almost any color you want. Chroming is a more challenging process so you need to be very careful in chosing who is going to do it for you. Chroming involves hazardous waste, powder-coating doesn't. Generally speaking, I think powder-coating requires less maintenance but both require care in cleaning.
