C6 Z06 Shifter installed
I finally got around to installing my new C6 Z06 Shifter over the holidays. I gotta say, this is the best $185 I have spent on my car.
(thanks to forum member MYCoupe for the sale)
I have only the stock shifter to compare it to, but it is an awesome upgrade. Shorter throw, very very smooth and I love the C6 shifter ****.
Also Thanks to Patches for the "play by play" installation thread. I replaced the whole stock shifter including the base so it was a very simple install.
If you are thinking of upgrading your shifter, I give it two thumbs up.
I, too, recently replaced my shifter with the C6Z. In my case, it was a BPP short throw, and though it's always been quiet, the notchiness was annoying. The new shifter is MUCH smoother, maybe in part because I took great care in lining up the notch on the cable connector. I'd already done the anti-venom mod with no noticable difference, so I'm glad this helps alot. Ironically, although the BPP has shorter throws than the factory C6Z piece, the handle is shorter now, and I have to modify the boot to fit. No biggie.
I have the Hurst shifter & love the short throws & precise bolt-action feel...but it's a bit stiff(even with the softest springs & using it for a couple of thousand miles). Has anyone tried both the Hurst and C6Z06 shifter? How do they compare?
Aces.... can you direct me to the install thread. Where can I get the C6 shifter? I have a '02 Z06, do I put a C6 Z06 shifter in? I need more info to get the right stuff and how to install.

Thanx
Three bolts to change out the shifter. Pretty simple. Once you get the console out, it takes about 5 minutes. Fred Beans Chevrolet
(forum vender) has these for about $200 shipped. I bought mine from another member. The shifter is a direct changeout to all C5's.
Here's the install link... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1022661

I had a Hurst for 3 years.... now have a C6Z06. Got tired of the super stiff side/side effort when using the car as a commuter/dd and on road courses.
The hurst is a better drag racing shifter, but that's it. I love my smooth, quiet, short throw C6Z06 shifter.
FYI people... vetteessentials makes a short boot sepcifically for C5ers usiing a C6 shifter. It has the proper bottom for the C5 setup but the top setup to fit into the C6 shift **** groove like factory. Both my father and I have them.

NO. Read the write up on the install. I believe Patches used the stock shifter boot, its just a tight fit around the ****.. I have the VE shift boot,
as do alot of forum members. The stock boot should work just fine, with a little coaxing.
